Each evening the festival presents concerts by some of the world's most distinguished artists performing in the intimate setting of the 420 seat, Romantic-period theatre, Teatro Signorelli.  The steps of Teatro Signorelli spill into the atmospheric open-air Piazza Signorelli, site of not only this year's ballet performance by soloists of the American Ballet Theatre, but the festival closing night Opera Gala, featuring non other than superstar soprano Angela Gheorghiu.   

For the 2009 festival, a warm welcome to our special guest Anthony Hopkins, whose exhibition of paintings entitled Masques and musical compositions will both be featured. Artists including Joshua Bell, Stéphane Denève, Nina Kotova, Danielle de Niese, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Maija Kovalevska, Vlad Mirita, Jaap van Zweden, Michael Guttman and Gisele Ben-Dor will all be featured at the festival this year

This is the most important festival in the village where the Brunello wine is produced; it takes place every year on the last Sunday in October.

In the morning there is a procession representing the noble Montalcino personalities in their medieval clothes. The procession passes through the flag adorned roads and reaches the 14th century fortress. In the afternoon the four teams into which the villages is divided, Borghetto, Pianello, Ruga and Travaglio have an archery contest representing the Medieval tournaments of wild boar hunting

From September 7th to January 11th 2009 this exceptional exhibition of Etruscan works of art from the Ermitage museum to be held at MAEC, Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca e della Città di Cortona. A sign of homage to  Cortona, once known as Lucumonia, from the great Museum in Saint Petersburg, that, exceptionally loans thirty pieces of its Etruscan collection a scientific collaboration with this city that has a great tradition in studies and archaeological research , and today more than ever is working on this front.

The exhibition opens in fact during the inauguration of 6 new halls at MAEC, heart of the archaeological park of Cortona, born in 2005 through the fusion of the 17th century Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca and the newborn museum dedicated to the Città Etrusca e Romana, which is now enriched with more spaces and new precious works.
