Donatella Cinelli Colombini |
|
| |
Born in 1953 into a family of producers of Brunello di Montalcino, Donatella graduated in History of Medieval Art. In 1993 she founded the “Wine tourism movement” and invented Wine Day, the event that in a very short time brought success to Italian wine tourism. Today she teaches in master courses in three universities.
In 1998, after 14 years in the family estate, she created her own, made up of Fattoria del Colle in Trequanda – with a country inn and the production of the Chianti wine – and Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino. This is where the Brunello is made, in a winery among the first in Italy to be staffed only by women.
In 2003 Donatella won the “Oscar” for Best Italian wine producer, a prize awarded by the Italian Association of Sommelier-Bibenda, and she published the Manuale del turismo del vino (a handbook for producers on how to organize, and successfully open their wineries to the public). In 2007 Donatella Cinelli Colombini publishes Marketing del turismo del vino (a handbook on the marketing for wine tourism).
Since 2001 Donatella Cinelli Colombini has worked as tourist advisor for the city of Siena. Among her projects is “Urban trekking,” a new type of sports tourism, which from Siena has been exported to 34 other cities in Italy.
Donatella Cinelli Colombini is the Tuscan representative of the Donne del Vino (Women in Wine) and as of 2008 she is Vice President of the Enoteca Italiana.
