Step after step discover the beauty in and around you: urban trekking in Siena and Asciano, sleeping at Fattoria del Colle October 28th to November 1st
By Donatella Cinelli Colombini
We will be waiting for you in the most beautiful countryside in Tuscany for this long bank holiday weekend. Urban trekking in Siena and Asciano is an experience that you will adore: there are so many incredible surprises for you, such as the first work by Raffaello. At Fattoria del Colle there is a program (on our web site with prices) including tastings, visit, brief cookery lessons, and dinners that you will not find anywhere else
I created urban trekking in 2002 when I was tourist advisor for Siena and now there are walking trails in every city of art and even urban trekking shoes-
Brunello_fermentation-room-Casato -Prime Donne-All-Saint’s- weekend
This is a success because it coincides with thy ways people prefer travelling now: no longer in the great masses and those roads where there are only stores for tourists, they prefer to be in contact with those who live in an area. It is the same trend as choosing to sleep I private homes rather than hotels. In other words I anticipated times!
The National urban trekking day 2016 is October 31st, the eve before all saints day. Among the 51 participating cities I have chosen the two closest (Asciano e Siena) to Fattoria del Colle to invite you to come for a walk with me, maybe using my country inn as a base.
Urban trekking is a healthy type of tourism because it tones the muscles and regenerates the mind by letting you discover places and stories that otherwise would remain hidden; our cities are real open air museums and the urban trekking reveals the art work like in a treasure hunt. Everybody can participate, of any age, becoming explorers, and this time there are really many discoveries. Read more…

Casato Prime Donne Award – Photographic Contest
The Casato Prime Donne Award has reached this year its 18th edition. It emphasizes the best work by journalists and photographers regarding the wine territories in south of Siena and every year chooses a “Prima Donna”, a woman who during the year stands out because of her way of life or in her work so as to become an example to women and not only. The list of past winners includes extraordinary women such as Samantha Cristoforetti the astronaut, Ilaria Capua the scientist, Sandra Savaglio, Giuseppina Maria Nicolini Mayor of Lampedusa. At Casato Prime Donne each of them has left a quotation that has been inscribed on a travertine block and put next pieces of contemporary art by young Tuscan artists. The Auteur trail winds its way through the Brunello vineyards and around the winery and during the past few years has become a meditation itinerary as well as an example of land art.
The winning photograph will also remain forever exhibited inside the Ilda Bartoloni Hall- she was the journalist to whom we owe the format of this award – together with the 17 other winning images of previous editions. A spectacular panorama of the Brunello and Orcia wine territories as seen by the greatest landscape photographers, who have all been struck by the image a lady grape picker or an ethereal sunrise amidst the fog, or by a vineyard in autumn, or by a solitary cypress tree alone on a hill. A thousand fascinating aspects of these territories in the southern part of Tuscany where the wonderful Brunello and Orcia wines are made and that present us every day with this show of a harmonious meeting between nature and man, who with respect has modelled it.

Paris uncorks 697 millions of bottles per year, in second place there is Buenos Aires followed by Ruhr metropolitan area in Germany
By Donatella Cinelli Colombini, Montalcino, Casato Prime Donne
Paris is the city where they drink more wine
Among the cities where they drink more wine in the world 3 are Italians: Milan, Naples and Rome. Milan is in 4th position overall with 301 million bottles. Naples surprisingly beats Rome with 188 million bottles and places 8th in the world, while the Eternal City stops at 177 million bottles. The real surprise comes by comparing these numbers with the inhabitants and tourists for each city. In fact Rome is definitely the most densely populated among them, with over 8,5 million people, while Milan doesn’t reach 1,5 million and Naples is under 1 million.
To that we need to add the tourists, notoriously big fans of Italian cuisine, that gladly indulge in wine tastings and shopping, to the point where one out of two usually goes home with an Italian bottle in their luggage.
In the ranking of the most visited Italian cities, Rome (with 8.780 million arrivals)
Naples is the city that “drinks” more wine in Italy
dominates over Milan (6.050.000) that gets second place and we find Naples only in 9th place. So, overall, the study carried out by the Isneec Wine & Spirit Insitute business school on the data collected by OIV leaves us a little perplexed.
It reminds us of the study carried out a few years ago on the “Nations with the highest wine consumption per person”, that saw on the first place of the ranking the Vatican City, unleashing the most blasphemous comments on the usage of wine during Mass. Actually, at least in that case, the ratio between the 800 residents and the tourists’ wine consumption easily explained the statistics. Read more…
Wine Tourism – Wine road Umbria
Wine lovers online are just one of the 363 tribes that communicate, share, look for exclusive opportunities and travel. They are obviously tourists with a passion
By Donatella Cinelli Colombini
JFC FerruzziMassimo Tursismo&management are a research centre and consulting agency among the best in Italy and periodically they send analysis. In september2015 they shared a study regarding industrial tourism that was very very interesting. At this moment, when no one else is thinking about it the Italian industrial museums have 880.000 visitors per year, but the Railway Museum in York in the UK, alone, has 770.000 tourists , so the potential is enormous because there are 166 Italian companies that could become a tourism destination
tourism of passions and fireworks
Wine tourism is full of opportunities and changes. The reasons for a trip change with the birth of new passions, or rather with those 725 personal interests that look for exclusive events to be shared online. That is how 363 “tribes” are born with rites to be shared, a sort of language and own rules. <<Interest becomes in fact a “passion” when this creates a virtual community through communication, sharing, information>>says Massimo Ferruzzi creator of the survey, while underlining that , in 2013 the Italian “tourism of passions” generated 38 million night stays (of which 33,6 in Italy) for a business that regards one and a half billion euro.
