School championships AIS Toscana, prepares tasters who win Italian and world championships practically every year, and it has a woman as director
Read for you by Donatella Cinelli Colombini
Her name is Simona Bizzarri and she was elected best Tuscan sommelier in 2008 and she manages this sort of taste gymnasium where the best talents train to become champions. A great devotion, lots of study. Lots of concentration but most of all lots of sacrifices because one must not smoke, and one most avoid those habits which damage the liver, and one must invest in buying important bottles from all over the world.
The course is one of the best in the world, the lessons are held in Calenzano, near Florence, with exceptional tutors; National or regional, or however from specific sectors such as from sparkling wines or Sangiovese. 5 lectures from February to March costing around 100€. Gradually the best sommeliers learn how to present their orally and in writing their organoleptic sensations
Obviously the course transforms into champions only those who have great talent and who have many, but really many tastings behind them, but it is very very useful. In 2011 the whole podium of best Italian sommeliers spoke Tuscan.
The “trainer” is Cristiano Cini, a giant from Arezzo, three times runner up as Italian champion. On a national level he is responsible for the AIS championships that accompanied towards the WSA World title the wonderful Luca Martini, who is also Tuscan, from Arezzo.
The medal winners are many: my friend Andrea Gori, Andrea Del Carlo, Maurizio Zanolla, Valentina Merolli, Daniele Arcangeli, Luca dell’Innocenti, Andrea Balleri, Simona Bizzarri and Claudia Bondi ambassador in Champagne 2013.
