This news comes from the report by “Wine Opinions Vinitaly Survey” and has been commented on excellently by Wine Meridian. In decreasing order there is a first group of words which includes Chianti, Toscana, Sangiovese, Barolo, Rosso and Dry followed by a second list of terms, that regard mostly the sensations that come from wine: Earthy , Prosecco, Food, Fruity , Robust, Diversity .
Here is first thought on the word Chianti that demonstrates how the effort to communicate Classico, selezione, superiore …. Has only been successful with those who work in wine while the public still gets confused … like when we say Bordeaux
and put all together the Premier Cru and the vin de pays, Margaux and the les Graves.
That there is this difference between the perception of wine lover and the general public is evident from the comparison of this list and the most frequent appellations written about by the International press shown by Regione Toscana at the inauguration of the Anteprime 2017. One of the fun aspects of my job at Fattoria del Colle is the time I spend with guests visiting the estate. Be it here or at Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino it is really nice to show experts or wine lovers where we produce and age the Chianti, Doc Orcia and Brunello.
I have always thought that telling people what is “behind” a bottle of wine, the challenges, the decisions and everything else that brings to a quality wine , to be the most important aspect of my job, that is why I am always happy to see the curious expressions of those following me and to hear their questions. It must be said though that there is no limit to what I have been asked, every time I think that I have heard the best then a young bright lad or a professor lifts his glasses to look at me all the better… and I remain speechless. wineries will give the go to the harvest! The grapes are almost fully ripen and totally healthy, so it appears to be a good year. Let’s hope for a great harvest! Fattoria del Colle proposes, for the occasion, a brand new offer for stays and activities all dedicated to the harvest. Come and experience the emotions and the unique atmosphere to the grape harvest in southern Chianti to discover how the great red Tuscan wines like Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti are born and the secrets hidden behind these bottles. All of this happens while immersed in the surroundings of a 16th century estate where apartments have been created from the old farmhouses. Healthy grapes, slight delay compared to the past few years, harvest foreseen between September 20th and October 5th for Brunello, straight after the picking for Chianti and Orcia wines

The vines, notoriously intelligent plants, are asking themselves if we are not transforming them in camels. First the vintages 2012 and 2013 that were as dry as a desert, and now a 2014 which, until July, resembled the beginning of the Great Flood. Finally in August the sun arrived, only two storms during the whole month. According to statistics 1,5°C more than the last decade of the 20th century and minus2°C with respect to the average temperatures from the year 2000 onwards. The nights are cool and during the day temperatures range between 28-33°C. Ideal temperatures for the aroma synthesis. The first grape analysis posted by the Consorzio del Brunello regarding clusters picked on August 26th are very positive: the “technological” ripening so the forming of sugar, is still far away, but the evolution of the noble substances in the skins – poliphenols– is ahead.
