Wine Tour – Brunello 2010 – Donatella Cinelli Colombini

By Alice Bracciali, Fattoria del Colle

Our key words are authenticity and excellence.  Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s ancestors were already owners of Fattoria del Colle and Casato Prime Donne at the end of the 16th century; these are today open to the public for guided tastings and wine tours.

Our proposals give one the possibility of tasting wines that win International awards and the possibility of learning family history and stories together with other small wine making secrets: during the itinerant tastings in fact you will be guided to discover the most hidden corners of these two historical estates. Among the tours, some of which are very suggestive and fascinating, such as “Let’s play winemaker” and the “Wine and Music tasting”, which are absolute novelties and enrich our portfolio of activities in a curious and captivating way. THE TREQUANDA TERRITORY AND ITS GREAT VOCATION FOR OIL

50% of the quality depends on the  “terroir”, 25% on the olive varieties and the method of picking, the remainder  25% is the merit of the olive mill.  Fattoria del Colle is in one of the best areas in Tuscany for extra virgin olive oil. An extraordinary region where thanks to the dry, cools and ventilated climate pesticides have never been necessary.

Trequanda, where our farm is, is distant from the sea and quite high up with an altitude (404 m) to not have problems with the oleic fly; this lays its eggs in the olives and ruins them.

At Fattoria del Colle this horrible insect has arrived twice in two centuries one of which last year. We were unprepared and unfortunately lost our olives. In 2015 fortunately it has not been so but to be sure eco friendly trap-baits were used for the flies. If they had come we would have caught them. The 2015 olives are well formed and the pulp is consistent and hard.

OLIVE PICKING AT FATTORIA DEL COLLE

No flies and a splendid quantity of olives in the 6 hectares of olive grove. The olive harvest has already begun, slightly sooner than usual so that the warm climate during 2015 autumn do not damage the quality of the harvest. Read more…

Donatella’s Sanchimento 2014

“Sanchimento” IGT :   2014, vintage without winter and without summer, gives us a white wine with more perfumes and aromas than in previous years

The 2014 harvest was definitely Nordic. 86 days of rain from April to October, ten more than the perfect vintage 2010. During the months of June and July it you thought you were in London where you can never go out without an umbrella.

These Nordic conditions resembled those typical in the Traminer vineyards and so favoured the synthesis of the aromas. The Sanchimento 2014 shows in fact more fragrance and more freshness compared to previous years.

It faces north and is 404 hectares above sea level on clayey soil of sea origin
