For someone from Siena to rediscover Vernaccia di San Gimignano is like for an Eskimo to realize that ice is cold. Something evident hat you have always had under your nose and consequently you do not observe with the necessary attention. This is why the members of the Union Européenne des Gourmets in Siena get bowled over in front of the lavish and elegant character of the Vernaccia Riserva. Obviously the explanations given by Stefano Campatelli and a 15 kg greater amberjack prepared divinely by Nicoletta chef at the Il Mestolo restaurant are accomplices …. the 35 diners have had a collective sense of love at first sight.
The evening was special for me too as I was celebrating my recent nomination as Cavaliere della Repubblica /knighthood) and the Consul Alessandro Bonelli awards me a plaque in the name of the club. Read more…

It all began with a discussion as to “where shall I put the rooster” and the nit finished with a smart and fashionable image for the new Chianti Classico

Sergio Zingarelli Presidente of the Consorzio presented the members of the Accademia Italiana della Cucina and of the Union Européenne des Gourmets, the “Chianti Classico Revolution” they restyling of the wine appellation from central Tuscany. He told us how it all began with a dispute over where the symbol of the black rooster above the bottles finished with a complete restyling of the image and appellation. In the end, the famous rooster, now with more feathers and an open beak, will be more visible. But that is not the end of the novelties: at the top of the Chianti Classico production pyramid arrives the “Gran Selezione” reserved to the best wines produced on the estates or rather those obtained from the vines of those who bottle them. Then there is the creation of the Chianti Classico Academy with courses for wine lovers lasting half a day or a whole day which include the ABC of the appellation and its tasting. Read more…

The Siena Consul Siena Alessandro Bonelli promises sparks in 2013 with wine tastings, conferences and tours of excellent producers. The beginning is a triumph, 12 wines that resemble the leading players on the Italian Premier league: Canalicchio di sopra, Capanna, Altesino, Costanti, Solaria, Casanova di Neri, Talenti, Fanti, Siro Pacenti, Banfi-Poggio alle Mura and of course Donatella Cinelli Colombini.
