Casato Prime Donne Award – Photographic Contest
The Casato Prime Donne Award has reached this year its 18th edition. It emphasizes the best work by journalists and photographers regarding the wine territories in south of Siena and every year chooses a “Prima Donna”, a woman who during the year stands out because of her way of life or in her work so as to become an example to women and not only. The list of past winners includes extraordinary women such as Samantha Cristoforetti the astronaut, Ilaria Capua the scientist, Sandra Savaglio, Giuseppina Maria Nicolini Mayor of Lampedusa. At Casato Prime Donne each of them has left a quotation that has been inscribed on a travertine block and put next pieces of contemporary art by young Tuscan artists. The Auteur trail winds its way through the Brunello vineyards and around the winery and during the past few years has become a meditation itinerary as well as an example of land art.
The winning photograph will also remain forever exhibited inside the Ilda Bartoloni Hall- she was the journalist to whom we owe the format of this award – together with the 17 other winning images of previous editions. A spectacular panorama of the Brunello and Orcia wine territories as seen by the greatest landscape photographers, who have all been struck by the image a lady grape picker or an ethereal sunrise amidst the fog, or by a vineyard in autumn, or by a solitary cypress tree alone on a hill. A thousand fascinating aspects of these territories in the southern part of Tuscany where the wonderful Brunello and Orcia wines are made and that present us every day with this show of a harmonious meeting between nature and man, who with respect has modelled it.

We have organized weddings for world champions, film producers, and people from high finance coming from 16 different nations … and they all said that <<getting married at Colle is the best>>

Wedding at fattoria del Colle
This is because at the table there is Brunello with other wines that receive International prizes, because the cutting of the cake takes place in the woods with lighting by the set designer of “4 weddings and a funeral”, because the honeymoon is spent in the bedroom that once belonged to the Grand Duke of Tuscany, because the panoramas are the most beautiful in the world and because Fattoria del Colle is an authentic place, with more than 400 years of noble history and a wedding needs a true frame , true like the love that united the bride and groom.
I have been to many ceremonies all over Italy but I must say that getting married in Tuscany is unbeatable. In fact, with figures in hand, it is the most sought after destination, villas, castles and farmhouses are all possible locations, and they are springing up like mushrooms. Fattoria del Colle, in South of Siena, where I organize weddings, has in the past seen dozens of couples ask for perfection for their Day and never has this magic place disappointed them. Buy why choose it? Why is getting married here best? Read more…

Wine Tour – Brunello 2010 – Donatella Cinelli Colombini
By Alice Bracciali, Fattoria del Colle
Our key words are authenticity and excellence. Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s ancestors were already owners of Fattoria del Colle and Casato Prime Donne at the end of the 16th century; these are today open to the public for guided tastings and wine tours.
Our proposals give one the possibility of tasting wines that win International awards and the possibility of learning family history and stories together with other small wine making secrets: during the itinerant tastings in fact you will be guided to discover the most hidden corners of these two historical estates. Among the tours, some of which are very suggestive and fascinating, such as “Let’s play winemaker” and the “Wine and Music tasting”, which are absolute novelties and enrich our portfolio of activities in a curious and captivating way. Zibibbo in Pantelleria just like the vineyards in the Langhe and the same as the Val d’Orcia with its Brunello and Doc Orcia wine areas are all cultural heritage of mankind
Written by Donatella Cinelli Colombini
Pantelleria shrub shaped vines
Great steps forward have been made in the appreciation of the value of material culture and a sort of return for those of us who live in the countryside. Believe me, with my degree in history of medieval art who has always looked upon the classification from Unesco as a means of protecting the most important expressions of human civilizations. For this reason I had always been surprised by some strange choices: in Crespi d’Adda is accepted among the world heritage sites, while Assisi, with the San Francesco convent with frescoes by Cimabue, Simone Martini and Giotto … is accepted only 5 years later. Better late than never, which is what has happened on the other hand to Naples, Palermo and Bologna. Read more…
