The Brunello dedicated to women, in the direction for Sangiovese and Montalcino tipicity, a new research of personality and finesse with little “oak effect”
The Brunello Prime Donne 2008 expresses its full belonging to the identity of Sangiovese and Montalcino. In other words it exalts those characteristics of the grape variety and of the Brunello territory that right on the Montalcino hill reach their excellence. A choice that puts the wine’s personality in the role as protagonist. The choice of refined style is also evident: a togetherness of harmony, elegance, roundness and lengthiness.
The effect of the barrel ageing, where the wine has rested for more than two years, becomes softer also because of the choice of medium and large barrels after the winemaker Valerie Lavigne asked us to empty our cellar of barriques.
The Brunello Prime Donne wine is the first red long ageing wine created for women. It is practically a symbol for Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s cellar where an all female staff works. It is also chosen by a panel of 4 super tasters who decide the barrels to be used and the final blending. These are the English Master of Wine Maureen Ashley, the Italo-American Pr Marina Thompson, the German wine shop owner Astrid Schwarz and one of the best Italian sommeliers Daniela Scrobogna.
Type: dry red.
Production area:Tuscany, Montalcino, Casato Prime Donne.
Vintage characteristics: after a winter with scarce showers, the rainfalls in
spring were very violent and frequent rainfalls. This created a reserve of water underground which was very useful during the summer when the temperatures stayed very hot even at night. The great heat ceased very suddenly half way through September and the grapes were picked a few days later so as to permit them to recuperate their extractability.
Grape type: 100% Sangiovese
Grape harvest: From September 10th to October 9th . The grapes were hand picked and carefully chosen, and reached the cellar in20 kg. crates one hour from picking. The grapes were in perfectly sound and ripe in poliphenols.
Vinification: 16 days of fermentation and macerations of the skins in contact with the must. Pumping-overs took place from the third day onwards. The grape seeds were perfectly lignified.
The grapes had very high contents of sugar and acidity. Unusual occurrence to have these conditions at the same.
Barrel ageing: we used French barrels from the Massif Central and fromSlavonia increasing in size from 5-15 hl up to 40 hl, the largest size being that for the resting period which precedes the bottling.
Quantity produced: 7000 bottles.
Colour: intense and brilliant ruby red.
Aroma: elegant, complex, clean, with pleasant hints of ripe small red fruits and spices.
Taste: exceptionally harmonious, full and refined. The wine is round regardless of the evident presence of tannins, warm with the alcohol compensated by the acidity and the fruit.
Analysis: alcohol 14% vol; tot.ac. 5,56 g/l; vol.ac. 0,60 mg/l; tot. SO² 90 mg/l; extract 28,58 g/l.
Matching dishes: important meat dishes, aged cheeses.
Way of serving: Room temperature (18-20°C). Use balloon shaped crystal wine goblets. Preferably open one hour before serving.
Home ageing: 25 years or more. Keep the bottles lying down in a dark and cool place. Have the corks changed in Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s winery around the year 2033.
