Touristy photos or real photos? The choice of a Photo album for a hotel is one of the most important. Here are those for Fattoria del Colle
About the photos of tourist destinations there are two philosophies: the classical one that requires a professional studio and more and more frequently agencies specialized in tourism communication. The photos are captivating even though very standard with models, flowers, studied lighting, furniture moved into artistic layout and well coordinated.
Then there is the school of thought I would call “social media effect” where what is homemade, true and natural is privileged. Evidently the photos must be well done, pleasant, and descriptive but the main element is the authenticity “without tricks” because they must convince the future client who will find exactly what he has seen. As if the images were those taken by a tourist with a fabulous camera and a good eye. In other
words the photos that one posts on Trip-advisor.
For years I have followed this principle, proud that no client has ever said << from the images on the web site we thought it would be more beautiful>> on the contrary arriving at Fattoria del Colle, the general comment was quite the opposite <<I didn’t expect it to be so beautiful>>. With the passing of the years though I began to see the other side of the medal and I asked myself <<might it be that this casual image penalizes us?>>
In fact tourism is the most virtual product of this global era. It communicates with images and sells dreams. The client buys on the basis of an emotion and of the desires created through the sight of something…. Reality is something else.
For this reason the great hotel groups use very clever professionals who use lighting, colours, actors, objects so that the image of the hotel, restaurant, swimming pool…. transmits the situation that the client hopes to experience in that specific place.
In this game of “I am how you want me” the simple photos of Fattoria del Colle are surely losers compared to those done by a professional. This was confirmed by a series of phone calls to tour operators with whom we collaborate, to promote “wine weddings”, those weddings organized among the vines in Tuscany that are now all the rage. When asked <<what could we do to attract more clients>> they all said the same, <<change the photos, your competitors’ locations seem more beautiful, only when they come to Tuscany to clients realize that the reality is different … but at that point it is too late ….>>.
So the authenticity of which we are so proud doesn’t do us justice. We must then call a photographer but without doing away with the “social media effect” …. It would be like going against my principles. So we searched for a young and brilliant photographer. Somewhat of an artist, with great sensitivity for all that is Tuscan and true. Looking on the web and through the wedding albums we find the right one. His name is Michele Bindi and he is
from Torrita. He uses no tricks but interprets with great sense of humour. His Fattoria del Colle is exactly as it is, but in his photos it is expressed with more power. The distance between us, and the country inns where everything has been restructured and the industrial furniture is the same everywhere…becomes immense. Ours appears with all of its charm, a location that can give emotions, a unique place, with 400 years of history, and for this reason well worth the journey. Go and see Michele Bindi’s photos in our web site…..you will be surprised!
