You have to queue for 45 minutes to get in, the entrances are clogged up, the  traffic jams are much worse than in previous years. This great success does create a few inconveniencies but the wineries that are here to exhibit are full of enthusiasm, and I would be surprised if the Vinitaly 2015 does not beat all records in attendance.

This seems to be the year for Puglia that has a great number of new stands, all beautiful and very large. <<In the last 21 months it has gone from being the last region in Italy for use of European funds to the first>> says the Assessore all’Agricoltura Fabrizio Nardoni.

And these results are well visible. Autochthonous grape varieties Negroamaro, Primitivo, Nero di Troia and the tourism tow the wineries that from Vinitaly seem to expect important results. The Movimento turismo del vino is very active under the direction of Sebastiano de Corato and Vittoria Cisonno .

Then there are the parliament members Paolo de Castro, Dario Stefano and Colomba Mongiello fighting to defend the olive groves in Puglia from a killer bacteria Xylella .The very clever Mongiello –known for the closure that avoids overflowing on extra virgin olive oil bottles- is working on a law that will put order in the wine making legislation.

All over Vinitaly there is an optimistic spirit. Friuli and Alto Adige are crowded, Toscana full of buyers from the orient, and is dominated by the new Brunello stand covered in green waves where the Montalcino and its Sangiovese vineyards are portrayed.

Barolo with wooden furnishings, recalling the Eataly style in its simplicity. Here too there are many operators. Less stands thought in the Sicily pavilion because many wineries found the participation costs far too high.

Many journalists and television troupes around the stands and many live interviews competing with the instagrammers and bloggers. Vinitaly is more and more connected and dialoguing with wine lovers the world. By the way, I too have been invited as a press member, and I have a pass hanging from my neck with the name of my blog!

Another little tit bit of news: I am in the Wine power list – the 100 personalities that count in Italian wine published by Cronache di Gusto. First is Riccardo Cotarella, followed by Piero Antinori, then Angelo Gaja and then the Ministro Maurizio Martina. I am 62nd before Daniele Cernilli and Marco Caprai. My goodness… I hope they don’t get mad!
