Ilaria Capua the viroligist is the “Prima Donna” 2009
From being a vet in an Italian public structure to being designated among the 5 “Revolutionary Minds” in the world. This clever, young and beautiful Italian researcher becomes an example of new femininity. She is the winner of this “Casato Prime Donne” award dedicated to Ilda Bartoloni, the journalist who passed away prematurely recently, who had transformed the award into an instrument to help women.
On September 19th in Montalcino Ilaria Capua received the “Casato Prime Donne” award 2009. She is one of the 5 Revolutionary Minds in the world, and lately acquired international fame for having identified the genetic codes of the Avian influenza, and more recently of the A/H1N1 responsible of the swine flu, but most of all because she initiated a global movement to share information so as to favour a more rapid intervention on the public health.
Ilaria Capua is a vet in a public structure called the Istituto Zooprofilattico delle Venezie, she is someone close to the farming world who has managed to get international acclaim and make women proud, especially the female jury of the Casato Prime Donne Award Francesca Colombini Cinelli, Rosy Bindi, Anselma Dell’Olio, Anna Pesenti, Stefania Rossini, Anna Scafuri and Daniela Viglione.
The other winners of this edition include prestigious personalities who have contributed to emphasize the Montalcino territory with their studies, their photographs and articles. The premio “Provincia di Siena” represented by the councillor Anna Maria Betti, was assigned to the Atlante di Qualivita 2009 by Luigi Verrini and Mauro Rosati. The Fondazione Qualivita was created in 2004 upon the initiative of Paolo De Castro, present President of the Agriculture Commission in the European Parliament.
The recently proclaimed President of the Camera di Commercio di Siena, Massimo Guasconi awarded Paolo Busato the prize for the best photograph 2009 of the territories where the Brunello and Doc Orcia wines are born.; an image that tells, with great strength of expression, of the Tuscan civilization.
The three journalistic sections of the Casato Prime Donne award begin with the Premio “Comune di Montalcino” awarded by the Mayor Maurizio Buffi to the programme Montalcino non solo città del Brunello by Walter Daviddi sent on air by TG3 Toscana directed by Franco De Felice. The Premio “Consorzio del Brunello” who’s president is Patrizio Cencioni, went to Christian Eder for the article Brunello das Jahr danach, published in “Vinum” one of the most authoritative vastly sold German wine magazines. Eleonora Guerini received the Pemio “Montalcino, la sua storia, la sua arte, il suo vino”, an award for female writers which expresses the spirit of the estate which promotes the event: Casato Prime Donne, first winery in Italy with an all female staff. At the end of the ceremony the two hundred guests celebrated the winners during a dinner at Fattoria del Colle in Trequanda with Donatella Cinelli Colombini and her husband Carlo as hosts.
