Saturday September 18th, in the Astrusi Theatre in Montalcino the sixth event of the "Casto Prime Donne" prize giving took place, an award dedicated to women as protagonists of our times and of the splendid area of great wines south of Siena.
Kerry Kennedy is the "Prima Donna " 2004
The first winner of the “Casato Prime Donne award to be chosen by the new all female jury is Kerry Kennedy, a woman who for more than twenty years has dedicated her life to human rights.
Francesca Colombini Cinelli President of the Jury, Ilda Bartoloni, Rosy Bindi, Anselma Dell’Olio, Dacia Maraini, Marialina Marcucci and Anna Pesenti have chosen a model woman of international repute whose work bears a clear reference to the theme which concerns all nations: the respect for human dignity.
So Kerry Kennedy is the Prima Donna 2004.
Since 1981 Kerry’s work has centred on the need for quality for everyone before the law, she leads three dozen delegations in favour of human rights in more than twenty nations. Kerry Kennedy founded the association “Speak Truth to power”.
The other prizes awarded in Montalcino brought the event back to its local dimension. A smaller achievement than defending human rights but it too is important as the Val d’Orcia, the main territory involved in this award, has recently become part of the Human Heritage of the Unesco. It is in this area that Donatella Cinelli Colombini has created her two wineries – Casato Prime Donne and Fattoria del Colle – which organize the award.
The Councillor for Agriculture of the Province of Siena Claudio Galletti awarded the prize “Provincia di Siena” for Literature and Science Production to Mario Fregoni, Costanza Fregoni, Roberto Ferrarini, and Francesco Spagnolli for the manual entitled Chimica viticolo – enologica. Elementi per la didattica di settore.
The award sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in Siena for the best photograph on the “Brunello and Orcia wines people and territories” was awarded by the President Vittorio Galgani to Stefano Caporali.
Renato Stopani received from the President Riccardo Margheriti the MPS Banca Verde award for sustainable development, for the book La storia che vive nel territorio
Massimiliano Rella received the “Comune di Montalcino” award, assigned by the Mayor Massimo Ferretti, for his articles Nella patria del Brunello anche l’ambiente diventa doc published in the “Sole 24 ore” and A Montalcino ora la qualità è certificata published in “Le Terre del vino”.
The President of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino Baldassarre Filippo Fanti awarded the English writer Jancis Robinson for her article Time for a taste of Tuscany published in the “Financial times”.
Enrico Biribicchi won the the award for television and radio programmes regarding “Montalcino, its history, its art and its wine".
