FARM HOLIDAYS IN TUSCANY
To rest, get a tan but also to discover masterpieces of art, play sports in the midst of breathtaking views, see where Brunello and extra virgin olive oil are born
Until fifty years ago they called it a “holiday” and it was a period of leisure and rest that lasted over a month.
Today we’re talking about short breaks of 3 days or a week because our lifestyle forces us to hurry even while on vacation. But the need to regenerate is even stronger than before. To get out of everyday life, from the wear and tear of stress, here is a real Tuscan farm, Fattoria del Colle, which has remained intact for over 4 centuries and is surrounded by a wonderful landscape and BIO – Organic cultures for oil, wine and crops.
FATTORIA DEL COLLE A MIRACULOUSLY INTACT SMALL HAMLET WHERE TO SPEND YOUR HOLIDAYS
Apartments and rooms with bathroom that look just like the houses of Tuscan grandparents and combine the comfort of modern sofas with the intimacy of authentic antique furniture. There are 3 swimming pools, restaurant and banquet hall, natural wellness area with sauna, Turkish bath, wine bath, couple’s massage room. And then 3 parks equipped with night lighting, 4 trekking routes, a photography safari, above all a weekly program with at least one experience every day: pinci lesson (fresh Sienese pasta), tasting of extra virgin olive oil of different cultivars, archery in the woods, guided tours with tastings in the Brunello and Chianti-Doc Orcia cellars.
The cellars are the real stars of this tourist offer. The Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino with the Brunellos awarded by the international press and the Chianti Superiore and Doc Orcia cellars at the Fattoria del Colle where there is a room that teaches how to “listen to the vineyards”. Both offer itineraries that are different from all the others and capable of surprising even the most demanding of wine lovers.
There are two visits to the farm, the first is truly exceptional because it enters the historic rooms of the sixteenth-century villa (coat of arms hall, historic kitchen, billiard room) in the chapel of San Clemente, in the Italian garden and in the ancient parts of the cellar. It is commented on by amusing but also instructive anecdotes on the history of Tuscany. The second proposal teaches to distinguish the Foglia Tonda and Sangiovese vines, shows the cellars -bottaia, tinaia, infernotti- with the room that teaches how to “listen to the vineyards” and is different but equally engaging.
BRUNELLO AND OTHER GREAT WINES FOR TASTING AND AT THE TABLE
All guided tours are accompanied by tastings but the ideal moment to enjoy Brunello reserve, Brunello Prime Donne, Cenerentola Doc Orcia, Supertuscan Il Drago e le 8 Colombe … is at the table in the Fattoria del Colle restaurant where it is possible to taste pappardelle with wild boar and panforte, pappa col pomodoro made with garlic from the Valdichiana, ravioli on saffron , sunchoke and potato cream, sliced Chianina beef, chicken cacciatore, Montalcino mantovana in traditional and modern forms. Dishes where the manual tradition of execution and a pinch of creativity of the Chef Doriana Marchi mix to create truly delicious preparations. In the dining room or on the terrace of the restaurant, the sommelier Alfredo Biagi helps guests to accompany each dish with the ideal wine.
In the surroundings there are various opportunities: for bicycle lovers the Eroica routes on dirt roads. For culture enthusiasts there is plenty of choice: Pienza built in the mid-fifteenth century for Pope Pius II and the first example of a city with a “regulatory plan”, Bagno Vignoni the only medieval spa centre still preserved, Montepulciano pearl of the sixteenth century, the Etruscan city of Chiusi with its underground tunnels ….. the concerts especially in Siena and Cortona …. For those who want to immerse themselves in nature, Sheppard’s ragnaia in San Giovanni …. The offer is so rich that it is necessary to choose. This is the Tuscany that the world admires: a dream landscape full of cities of art and extraordinary wines.
