WINE SPECTATOR AND WINE ADVOCATE 94/100
Have you seen the Wine Spectator April edition of Insider? Our Brunello di Montalcino 2015 has been rated 94/100 with this description << Complex and harmonious, this red evokes cherry, plum, earth, tar and wild herb flavours. Bright and solidly built, with a long finish echoing fruit, mineral and underbrush >> then the suggestion << Best from 2023 through 2042>> Bruce Sanderson.
The same wine gt the same rating of 94/100 from Wine Advocate –Robert Parker <<The Donatella Cinelli Colombini 2015 Brunello di Montalcino caps long years of careful study and experimentation. When I think back to what this wine tasted like, say, 10 years ago, I notice that the ongoing stylistic tweaks faithfully reflect the general evolution of the appellation. This wine is very much a symbol of a united move toward more streamlined and delicate expressions obtained with winemaking techniques that reflect a more traditional and Tuscan ideal.
The bouquet opens to delicate flowers and violets with wild cherry and bitter almond. The level of toast and spice has been ratcheted down quite considerably. The results are polished, clean and bright. Some 42,000 bottles were made (and were released in January 2020). Drink from 2021 through 2035>> Monica Larner.

CASATO PRIME DONNE – MONTALCINO WHERE THIS BRUNELLO IS BORN
Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino is the first winery in Italy with an all female staff. There are three female winemakers – Barbara, Sabrina and Giada – even the consultant oenologist is a woman: Valérie Lavigne who teaches in the University of Bordeaux.
The property is on the northern slope of Montalcino, the coolest side, that has most benefitted from the climate change. There are 17 hectares cultivated entirely with Sangiovese vineyards, with organic certification since 2018.
A 5 STAR VINTAGE
A great vintage. The climate in 2015 had the characteristics of the best Brunello vintages, with a winter and spring that were very rainy, and well hydrated the soil. July was incredibly hot and stumped the vegetative cycle that until then had been precocious. August had many storms alternated with hot days, and September with great temperature variation between day and night, allowed a perfect synthesis of the aromas. The harvest took place with a clear sky and in perfect conditions.
A UNIQUE WINE –DIFFERENT TO ALL OTHERS – BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2015 CASATO PRIME DONNE
As Monica Larner from Wine Advocate-Robert Parker said, the producer of this Brunello, Donatella Cinelli Colombini, is trying to bring this wine back to the original style of the appellation she learnt to love as a young woman. She remembers in the 1970’s and 1980’s the Brunello made by her grandfather Giovanni Colombini. He was one of the pioneers of Brunello. For this reason today the harvest is done by hand, choosing the clusters one by one as was done by famers long ago, and the vinification is done in small unlined concrete vats, open on top so that the punch down of the skins can be done without the use of pumps.
All is carefully done, in a delicate manner and respectful of tradition and the character of the grapes. The ageing is done for more than two years in oak barrels, medium and large sized, all made by small artisan workshops, and coming from 3 French tonnelleries and 2 Italian ones (Meyrieux, Adour, Atelier Centre France, Garbellotto and Gamba). The result is a very elegant Brunello, complex and harmonious, rich in aroma and very long lasting. A wine that has very traditional and typical traits, but surprisingly very close the taste of present day wine lovers. The production is of 42.000 bottles.
HOW TO SERVE THE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2015 DOCG
Brunello is a wine meant to be paired with food and especially during important meals. To be served at its best it needs the right atmosphere. It is perfectly matched with aged cheeses and noble meats.
It is advisable to serve it at room temperature (18° C – 64 F) using clear crystal balloon shaped glasses. We suggest you open the bottle an hour before serving, and if possible use a decanter.
WHEN AND HOW TO USE THE VACCUM STOPPER
Those who do not finish the bottle one opened can use the vacuum stopper to pull out the air and preserve the wine intact for the next couple of days. It is very easy to use: put the opened bottle on a flat surface upright, push on the vacuum stopper onto the neck of the bottle. With one hand keep the bottle still, holding the stopper by the lower ring and with the other hand pull out the air by going up and down with the upper part of the stopper. The air is completely removed when it becomes harder to action the stopper. Obviously the stopper can be used many many times; you just need to clean the part that touches the bottle.
The TOP year for this wine should be 2023, and however between 2021 and 2025. But it is already extraordinarily pleasant. It can though be cellared for 20-30 years, depending on the taste of those who will drink it and according to their love of aged Brunello.
Lay the bottles flat, in a dark and cool place.
Have the corks changed at the winery of origin when the level of wine descends in the bottle.
