This is a Brunello for millennials, more understandable, more pleasant than the vintages apt for long ageing and consequently more appropriate for new wine consumers who are looking for pleasure in the glass
<<For the first time I have destined all my best grapes to the production of Brunello, I have preferred not to make Riserva nor the selection Prime Donne>> said Donatella Cinelli Colombini. <<This decision has been an expensive one but has been necessary to offer customers, who
faithfully come back year after year, a great wine worthy of my name>>.
A FRIENDLY BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2014
This Brunello di Montalcino 2014 is different to usual, it is friendly, very rich in aroma, the alcohol content is moderate and the wine has great finesse. A wine like those from long ago but however apt for young wine lovers who travel the world and like eating less traditional dishes and more multiethnic foods.
2014 was a year with no winter and no summer. Up until August the climate was cold and rainy forcing the grape growers to work a great deal. Then the good weather arrived and this permitted a good harvest. The 2014 harvest stood out for another reason: it was a triumph for organic cultivations. Only those, like us, who grew their vines without systemic products brought home excellent grapes.
CASATO PRIME DONNE IN MONTALCINO
Donatella’s property in Montalcino covers 40 hectares, it is called Casato Prime Donne and it already belonged to her ancestors at the end of the 16th century. It is on the northern slope of Montalcino at 225 m above sea level on soil of neo quaternary origin with a prevalence of clay. Here there are 16,5 hectares of vineyards, all Sangiovese. The density is around 5500 plants per hectare and they are trained spurred cordon. Furthermore these vines are manually cared for by a team of 8, who become 22 during the harvest, so as to be able to carefully choose the clusters and berries.
This winery is the first in Italy to be all female staffed and it is equipped with small vats that allow us to ferment separately each parcel of vineyard and every day of picking. The alcoholic fermentation uses selected indigenous yeasts. The barrel ageing takes place in 5 and 7 hl tonneaux and in 15-40 hl barrels.
