Music at the Prime Donne
Casato Prime Donne, the first winery in Italy with an all female staff becomes a music workshop: Igor Vazzaz and his wine and music masterpiece 2015
Introduction by Donatella Cinelli Colombini
Five months of trials and here is born a sensorial experience to be launched on September 13th during the Casato Prime Donne Award 2015, and to then remain permanently active. It unites and changes the perception of places, wines and music under the direction of the intellectual eclectic and transgressive Igor Vazzaz.
For a long time I had been searching for a wine expert who was also a wine expert, and who would be able to choose the right music to accompany my wines while being tasted in the winery where they are made. Thanks to my friend Marzia Morganti I met Igor Vzzaz .I immediately liked him and I asked him to choose for the “la musica delle Prime Donne” an itinerary in sound ambiance able to express new sensations while tasting 4 wines. It will surprise you when you come to visit
Let me present Igor Vazzaz to you. He is half Tuscan and half Friulian, born in 1974; singer songwriter, theater critic, essayist, sommelier, cultural editor, sports journalist, semi-satirical writer
He has been for many years on the tasting panel with other AIS sommeliers for the magazine “Sommelier Toscana”. He teaches theatre in the Università di Pisa, but music is his great passion: from the traditional Tuscan songs to the Irish folk songs from define popular music by artists who write and perform their own material, and he even composes with the etnosurf group Tarantola 31 with whom in 2013 he published an album Nonostante Maria (va tutto bene).
IGOR VAZZAZ – NOTE FOR A SENSORIAL JOURNEY
Wine and art, wine and music: matching accompanying are words used by wine lovers but also good for wine and music. Often illustrious studies are carried out such as the one carried out y Adrian C. North from the Scottish university Heriot-Watt,in Edinburgh, who’s results published in the «British Journal of Psychology», have created great curiosity.
THE MANY POSSIBILITIES OF MATCHING WINE AND MUSIC
We have selected 5 possibilities here but that does not exclude that there may be others
- the ethnic route, privileging “regionalism” even in the music sector
- the emotional route, finding the charter of the wine to vibrate during the music
- the figurative route, proposing “style” adherences between beverage and type of music
- the phylo-logical route, declining the regional (or ethnic) matrix even in an historical method
- the sound route, based on the physical spect of the acoustic stimulation, other than the musical texture
The 5 instances mentioned above can generate unlimited intercrosses so it is impossible to give a complete summary: it is a Game, of course regarding one of the most important things to which man gives his attention, and it is not by chance that the word play in serveral languages is a synonym , sometimes even meaning to act.
SENSORIAL JOURNEY
To unite tasting and sound listening is something that cannot be divided from the place where this union occurs. It is consequently a particular role that has been attributed to the 4 theatres which will house the same number of stations for this experience which we are proposing, locations which have , no less than the wines, known how to transmit sensations and most importantly their particular necessity.
WINE COMES FIRST
Of course the centre , the pearl, of all of this is the wine, the wine necessitates of a mental space to be listened to with nothing in the way. So in choosing the matching there has always been the urgency to avoid the intrusiveness of the acoustics, in a rhythmical and verbal way (with just one exception) This risk was to over stimulate.
As we are talking about 4 wines from the same territory we have preferred to concentrate more on the emotional figurative character all filtered through the sound dimension considering the recent discoveries regarding the influence of sound stimulating tastes and aromas
A game, of fusion and fantasy, this is our most sincere desire, that it might become a journey that will be impressed in the heart and in the memories of those who wish to share it with us.
