2011 a surprising vintage! Sanchimento and Rosa di Tetto
Surprising and controversial harvest in 2011, with high peaks in quality and profound delusions: from Fattoria del Colle arrive Sanchimento and Rosa di Tetto
This is a record vintage: the hottest August, the fewest grapes, the earliest harvest…..Other than this a new geography of the quality of areas usually more performing in great difficulty, and younger allotments at their productive peak. On the whole the vineyards at Fattoria del Colle have suffered because of their calcareous soil which has dried out in August, when the thermometer was around 40°C by day and night.
For this reason the Sanchimento 2011 has surprised everyone because of its excellent quality and freshness. It has been produced with Traminer grapes from a vineyard twenty years old, at behind the chapel at Fattoria del Colle. The soil tends to be humid, the exposition facing west and most of all the sensibility of our cellar master Magnani have all helped to attain a white wine rich and fine in aroma. Elegant, sapid, well balanced and persistent in the mouth.
Only 2,000 bottles produced destined practically entirely for use on the
estate.
Rosé wine is definitely trendy. Today all wineries insert a rosé in their portfolio but for Fattoria del Colle rosé is not a novelty as we have been producing for the past 20 years. “Rosa di Tetto” stands out because of the “onion skin” colour and because of the soft but intense taste; in other words a rosé for the meal not only for the aperitif.
It is produced with Sangiovese grapes from the Cenerentola vineyard. The must ferments for a few hours in contact with the skins and is then moved to complete the vinification at a temperature of 18.20°C. The result is a fresh, delicate and structured wine. In its aromas its clearly recalls red fruits and leaves the mouth pleasantly sapid.
