Clara Melchiorre, born to be a photographer

Here is the story of a fashion reporter who is set to conquest of the world: Clara Melchiorre only 19 years old and incredibly talented

 

She is Pugliese from, Bari, she is 19 years old and has been living in Milan for a few months, she is currently attending the IED, the best photography school in Italy. She began her photography career by taking photos of her cousin who was dressing up in her mother’s clothes, she managed to have these first shots published in ‘Sette’ in the publication Corriere della Sera, on ‘Vogue’s’ website and in ‘Velvet’.

But for Clara, a student at the Classical High School in Bari, this was not enough. She persuaded her architect father and then totally convinced her mother (who is a therapist for autistic children), that she should not go on to study a conventional course at university but instead follow her vocation as a photographer. Bibiana and Massimiliano Melchiorre were unhappy about their separation from their daughter but they let her leave for Milan, and the obvious talents of their daughter have blown away any possible doubts as to the wisdom of this decision.

We have watched this young lady growing and developing her talent year after year when she came on holiday with her family to the Fattoria del Colle, it was

as if we were witnessing the blossoming of a flower.

And here is Clara in Milan “I go to IED 4 days out of 7,” she says describing his life which is very focused on photography “ I also have learned how to work in the darkroom, using the same techniques as the great photographers of the past, so I print my own photos only in black and white.”

Here we show some of her most recent works. They are beautiful. She explains more about her life. The IED in Milan has two locations, one for fashion and visual communication, where she studies. ”There are 30 students on my course, the other students are very nice, they come from all parts of Italy there are even some from Puglia” explains the young Melchiorre. “ The teachers are highly trained; they are all professionals in their own fields, such as reporters, photographers, exhibition curators etc. We study several subjects such as the history of contemporary art, semiotics, photography direction, languages, cultural anthropology, design methodology, communication, in short everything you need to have a broad view of the world of photography today.”

Clara lives in the centre of Milan behind the National Theatre, 10 minutes by metro from the Duomo. “ Most people think of Milan as being grey and wet – but I don’t”, says Clara, “This winter I think it has rained more in Bari than it has here. But it is a bit too hectic here for me, I seem to have only a few minutes occasionally when I have some spare time to myself.” Despite this, Clara dreams of moving to New York and we are certain that nothing will hold her back.
