LORELLA SALVI CREATES THE NEW SHOP IN THE CELLAR AT FATTORIA DEL COLLE WITH A VERY TUSCAN DESIGN ENTIRELY “MADE IN TUSCANY”

The partnership between Donatella Cinelli Colombini with the OMIF company from Siena and the interior designer Lorella Salvi is now approaching twenty years. It began in the Toscana Lovers store in Siena and continued in Bagno Vignoni and Cortona with the furnishing of the other two shops of the best Tuscan craftsmanship for the home. Commercial activities coordinated by Cecilia Sacchi who also orchestrated the renovation of the cellar stores.

 

LORELLA SALVI THE INTERIOR DESIGNER OF DONATELLA’S STORES

Two years ago, Lorella designed the shop at Casato Prime Donne winery in Montalcino in natural wood with an austere style suitable for Brunello and also inspired by the libraries of aristocratic residences. This year she designed the commercial area of ​​the Fattoria del Colle winery in Trequanda using a cream colour that recalls the pantries of Tuscan castles and villas. The commercial area is in the innermost part of a very large room located in the basement of the sixteenth-century villa.

It incorporates the external walls of a medieval tower and the entrance to the underground cave where, according to ancient chronicles, Sant ‘Egidio di Querciola and San Bernardino da Siena retreated to pray. Here, protected from light, temperature changes and thieves, Donatella Cinelli Colombini keeps her antique bottles of Brunello.

The room where the sales point is located is also used to let tourists taste the wine in groups and can accommodate up to 55 people, i.e. the occupants of a 12-meter bus.

A NEW WINE SHOP THAT HARMONIZES WITH THE PAST

For the commercial space at Fattoria del Colle, Lorella Salvi has chosen an elegant and sober style, without giving in to the fashions of the moment. Something traditional that, at first glance, seems to have been there for decades. The cream lacquer recalls the pantries and is the same colour as the “usciaie” visible in the sixteenth-century kitchen of the farm. These are the storage rooms where the farmer’s wife stored eggs, flour, cheese … but also silverware, dinner sets and glassware.

The shapes of the new store are sober as is in the Tuscan style that does not flaunt luxury but expresses itself without frills and gilding. After all, the symbolic tree of Tuscany is the cypress and the traditional floor is “cotto” made up of simple bricks. Lorella knows that Donatella Cinelli Colombini chose her precisely for her ability to create “identity” environments according to the three rules needed to contrast “non-places”, that is, those environments that could be anywhere. The rules are: local artisans, local materials, local style. In other words, Donatella likes interior designers who give continuity to tradition by adding artisan talent without being attracted by passing trends.

 

LIGHT, SOUND AND FUNCTIONALITY

inappropriate to place lighting fixtures inside the shelves and for this reason, Lorella focused on spotlights that would illuminate the bottles from the front, seeking a compromise between commercial needs and oenology. The entire company range is on sale: Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, Chianti Superiore and Doc Orcia, Supertuscan, Spumante, Vin Sano and Passito, but also extra virgin olive oil in the various cultivars.

 

The sound diffusion system has been maintained, which, although it is rarely used by the wine hospitality staff, can nevertheless be a valid help in highlighting the quality of the wines and relaxing the visitors queuing in front of the counter.

A few words on the “under the counter” which has been equipped with a glass washer, mini fridge and a stock of wines for sale. This is a very important space that is often underestimated with respect to the functionality of the sales work but which instead has a strategic importance. Those who sell must have everything at hand, scissors, stickers, tissue paper, price lists, forms for shipping abroad …. but also, special packaging such as wine skins that allow you to put the bottles in your suitcase during plane trips.

HARMONY ELEGANCE AND TRADITION

For the packaging, cases, single and gift packs, Lorella Salvi has created a small display because it is important to show wine lovers, especially women wine lovers, how the winery is able to satisfy their needs by also providing pumps to extract air, corkscrews and drop stops …

Here the new sales point  fits into the traditional context of Fattoria del Colle like a tailor-made suit and shows, once again, how great wine is made of harmonies between history, nature and the work of mankind.
