The Brunello wine becomes Riserva when at its best, for this reason Donatella Cinelli Colombini just like all the other producers in Montalcino, takes care of it more than any other wine, in the vineyard and in the cellar.

This Brunello Riserva shows in a more evident way than the three previous vintages the change in style of the Casato Prime Donne winery, whose goal is to exalt the typical elements of Sangiovese from Montalcino: a graceful and austere elegance that only on the Montalcino hill reach levels of absolute excellence. Such results are possible thanks also to the climatic changes which favour Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s vineyards, situated in a cool area of Montalcino, where the soil is rich in clay and consequently able to capture rainfall and release it during the hotter months. The new vineyard Ardita, planted in 2001, has finally reached its productive maturity and expresses very high levels of excellence. That is the vineyard that supplies us with the grapes for this extraordinary Brunello Riserva.

Climate: unusually warm winter, the rain showers arrived in spring that lasted well into the summer alternating with very hot days. The vine had no hydro stress and well put up with the high temperatures while the grape ripening took place in a regular manner.

Grape type: 100% Sangiovese (Brunello).

Grape harvest: from September 20th to October 5th. The harvest was manual, with a careful selection of the grapes; these reached the cellar in20 kg. crates less than an hour form being picked.

Vinification: in temperature controlled vats for about 18 days always in contact with the grape skins. The must was very rich in extractable poliphenols and so was coloured and rich in fruit. The grapes were cooled with dry ice to contrast the tendency of a quick and very hot fermentation.

Barrel ageing:  3 years in oak barrels in increasing size: from 5hl for the first year, then 15 hl and finally the large 30-40 hl ones.

Quantity produced: 3000 bottles.

Colour: bright and intense ruby red.

Aroma: refined, clean, complex, with balsamic and spicy hints as well as a net nuance of red berries.

Taste: elegant, velvety, full, intense, persistent with a hint of bitter almond that lasts pleasantly in the mouth. The robust tannic structure is perfectly balanced by the alcohol content and the fruit.

Analysis: alcohol 14,5 % vol; Tot. ac. 5,2 g/l;  vol. ac 0,56 mg/l; extract  30 g/l.;   SO² tot 96 mg/l;

Matching dishes: important meat dishes and aged cheeses.

Way of serving: Room temperature (20°C). Use balloon shaped crystal wine goblets. Open at least one hour before serving.

Home ageing: 30 years and more. Keep the bottles lying down in a dark and cool place. Have the corks changed in Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s winery around the year 2032.
