Let’s play winemaker
The project is an absolute novelty and is called “let’s play winemakers”. Instead of being a game for kids though this is an activity for adults, wine lovers, who wish to experience making a great wine according to their own taste.
Two locations: Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino and Fattoria del Colle in Trequanda in Southern Tuscany Minimum 4 pax (at 18 euro per person and maximum 12 pax at 16,00 euro per person
Fattoria del Colle Let’s play winemaker tasting
The programme lasts about two hours and is great fun. The first step is a guided tour of the vineyards and the winery. At Casato Prime Donne, where the Brunello is made and aged, the barrels are alternated with paintings which talk about the history of Montalcino. At Fattoria del Colle where the Orcia, Chianti Superiore and supertuscan are produced, the winery is underground, beneath the 16th century villa and there is also a hermitage where we store the antique bottles of Brunello, and in the loft the Vin Santo is stored. These are two boutique wineries one different to the other but both equally interesting. During the tour our guests will take some pure Sangiovese out of an oak barrel.
Playing at being winemaker
This is the starting point of a very particular wine tasting. First tasting: Rosso di Montalcino, a pure Sangiovese that shows all the best values of this varietal: elegance, harmony, finesse…. A wine ours that has been judged 17,5/20 which is equal to 91/100, by the prestigious British wine magazine “Decanter”. Second tasting: Leone Rosso Doc Orcia 60% Sangiovese and 40% Merlot. Our wine lovers will begin to get the taste for this fascinating and complex subject of blends, and straight after they begin themselves blending Sangiovese ,Merlot and Sagrantino, 3 wines born from three different varieties, fermented, aged and in barrel separately. Glass measuring cylinders, glasses and lots of trails trying to find the perfect equilibrium between alcohol, acidity and tannins. The final results will be compared with a real Supertuscan which contains the same three wines: “Il Drago e le 8 Colombe” awarded a fantastic 90/100 by “Wine Spectator”. Obviously this passage is only the first step in the world of technical wine tastings, a dun way to try the difficult art of being a wine maker one of the jobs where you need much talent and many years of studying. It’s not possible to become a winemaker in a day!! What we propose is an important and unique experience for those who really love great wines and want to understand them well. The participants will take home, as well as their new knowledge a diploma, for fun but not totally, to hang in their own wine cellars.
