Read for you by Donatella Cinelli Colombini
This short note would like to present the evening of March 3rd at Fattoria del Colle when, at 9 pm in the historic cellar, Gabriella Vittoria Romano will present her book Isole (CDGEdizioni 142 € 13)accompanied by the music of her partner Natalio Mangalavite, a great jazz musician who for 20 years was Ornella Vannoni’s pianist. The members of the “Lions Club Montalcino la Fortezza” will be present and they will, just before the event, organize their convivial meeting in the halls of the villa at Colle. But let us talk about the book: this is Gabriella Vittoria Romano’s debut and it reveals her extraordinary talent. A fluid writing, deep, always able to surprise and make you reflect. Stories full of facts, characters and significance.
And then the Island as a location where to go to when you are hurting, a place which transforms <<into a soothing medicine the poison which otherwise would have consumed my soul >>.
The pain of the 4 women in these stories is consequently autobiographic and not only imaginary, the attempted rape, an abortion, the death of a father in a raging fire, the visions of past tragedies…. We have all experienced great pains, events which wreck you and force you to find refuge on an Island a long distance away from everything and everyone
For this reason the author’s desire is to transform the individual islands into a universal archipelago.
<<Because I strongly feel that only love has the ability to contain all the pain in the world …. The constant and coherent thought from the beginning to the end is that life is wonderful!>>.The book finishes with a phrase which encompasses its significance <<With sisterly love>>.
