The Halloween preparations around the world and at Fattoria del Colle
Pumpkins, masks, witches hats … history and programs of the Halloween celebration adored by children and contested by bishops
The Catholic authorities would like to abolish it because according to them it evokes the devil, but in reality it is a way of fighting being scared of the dark, in the winter, and maybe of death and the occult.
The word Halloween has a religious root and derives from All-Hallows-Eve so the eve of All Saints in old English. It already existed in the 16th century and has become a recognised and popular festivity inUSA with the typical pumpkins and horror costumes worn by children asking from home to home “trick or treat?”
After some poisoned sweets and some missing kids, American parents no longer like sending the children out at night, but the rest of the world, on the contrary this feast with monsters and witches gets more and more popular year by year and not only among teenagers but also among adults too.
At Fattoria del Colle in Toscana Halloween will be celebrated with a witch’s dinner in the veranda at the Osteria: dark clothes, lights in the pumpkins and a four course meal together with a delicious Brunello 2008 (35€ without beverages).

The climax will be the end of harvest feast on November 1st where the dishes served at
diner will be prepared with wine and there will be dancing among the barrels.
And while the DJ mixes the music chestnuts and new wine will be served, together withcakes from the Sienese tradition and grappa (€ 41 per person without beverages).
