Kerin O’Keefe clever, beautiful, young and a Brunello lover
Kerin O’Keefe: she writes for The World of Fine Wines, Wine, Decanter, Wine News …. She is an excellent wine taster, and she knows Montalcino better than I.

Here new book is called “Brunello di Montalcino” ( 300 pp. 36,60€) and tells of the locations, the people and even the recipes in such detail and precision just like a person who knows Montalcino inside out, and like someone who ha san archive with thousands of pages of notes. I don’t know how long she has stayed in Montalcino but certainly a long time. She writes with a light tone, like that of story for friends but the information is precise and always exhaustive.
It is evident that she adores this land but not to the point of avoiding the difficult issues, she talks of the Brunellopoli episode ( “Brunellogate”) talking

about the facts in detail and given her opinion without reserve .The titles in this section portray a very Anglo-Saxon sense of humour “To be Brunello or not to be Brunello” and then “Inconclusive conclusions”. After the literary quotation, a pun.
Later in the book Kerin talks of the return to typicity and proposes the division of Montalcino into 7 subzones although she is aware.
That such a prospective would meet enormous difficulties in being put into act. Then there are the profiles of 24 estates, or rather of the producers. Kind portraits, in fact in my case – Casato Prime Donne – far too kind. In all a wonderful book, pleasant to read, even for those like myself who don’t perfectly understand English. A book that helps the reader fall in love with Montalcino without hidings its contradictions and troubles. In the end it is this honesty of Kerin’s approach that makes the book contents more convincing and transforms the reader from wine lover to Brunello lover.
