MICHAEL GODEL FROM CANADA SENDS US 11 EXCELLENT SCORES
BRUNELLO, ROSSO DI MONTALCINO AND ORCIA DOC IN THE LEONE ROSSO AND CENERENTOLA VERSION ON WINE ALIGN THE PORTAL BY CANADIAN SUPER TASTERS

Michael Godel with Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s staff
Michael Godel is among the foreign wine critics who know Montalcino best. He often participates in Benvenuto Brunello and the Tuscan wine previews and has visited hundreds of wineries in this area. He loves Sangiovese but also greatly appreciates the Foglia Tonda variety for its acidic richness which makes the wines long-lived and fresh.
Our importer in Ontario, Bernard Stramwasser Les Sommelier sent us 11 sheets and 11 scores from Michael Godel on Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, Leone Rosso Doc Orcia and 6 vintages of Cenerentola (based on Sangiovese and Foglia Tonda) from 2021 to 2001. They are published on Wine Align, the portal of the major Canadian wine experts.
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO DOCG 2020 SCORE 93/100
Godel appreciated this wine and the respectful way in which it was vinified and matured, allowing the vintage to express itself without intervening in the cellar. The result is a good richness of extracts and a natural balance.
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO PRIME DONNE 2020 SCORE 94/100
Brunello Prime Donne is selected during a blind tasting by a panel of 4 tasters, sommelier Daniela Scrobogna, wine expert Astrid Schwarz and two MWs: Madeleine Stenwreth and Rosemary George. The wine has more tannins than the other Brunello due to the French wood in which it matured. In Godel’s opinion it is a classic Brunello with good aging potential. He is favourably impressed by the spice aromas and by the structure.

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA 2019 SCORE 96/100
Much appreciation for this wine and for this vintage which is considered among the TOP of Brunello. Crunchy at first impact and then the tannins come out not yet completely tamed.
This is what Michael Godel said <<great aromatic volume and tannic load, a rush of intensity and finally composure. Oh baby, at the end the Riserva punches, so young and like the final drum beat at the end of a song that simply rocks>>
ROSSO DI MONTALCINO 2022 SCORE 92/100
A new generation of Rosso di Montalcino: complex, satisfying and elegant. Light tannins, unobtrusive wood and just a touch of the cellar for a wine that <<is the business card with which we present ourselves>> as Violante Gardini Cinelli Colombini says
LEONE ROSSO DOC ORCIA 2021 SCORE 90/100
Leone Rosso contains 40% Merlot and 60% Sangiovese; it matures for a short period in oak barrels and has a very contemporary character. <<Higher tonic and also broader depth on the palate for a fuller expression of Sangiovese…. the underlying structure keeps the wine erect, linear and adherent>>

CENERENTOLA DOC ORCIA 2021 SCORE 92/100
The Orcia DOC wine region (established in February 2000) is located between the areas of Montalcino and Montepulciano, but its wines are neither Brunello nor Vino Nobile. Michael Godel’s comment on the 2021 vintage is almost a lesson on learning to recognize the Foglia Tonda variety << red wine with intense hints of floral and peppery spices in the aromas; no other Tuscan red grape smells like this…..Here is a deeper, more tannic and age-worthy style…..An ideal vintage, super young, in the bottle only since March>>
CENERENTOLA DOC ORCIA 2019 SCORE 91/100
Godel proves to be a great enthusiast of the Foglia Tonda variety which was recuperated by Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s team about 25 years ago when it was almost abandoned. The great Canadian taster especially likes the freshness that the Foglia Tonda gives to the wine and its cellaring ability. For this reason he recommends waiting longer before drinking it and letting it breathe in the glass.
CENERENTOLA DOC ORCIA 2017 SCORE 92/100
Hot and arid year for a variety like Foglia Tonda which loves the sun and therefore has maintained a nice acidity. This character together with the tannins allow the wine to live for a long time and at least until 2030 as a period of best expressiveness.
CENERENTOLA DOC ORCIA 2015 SCORE 90/100
Still mature although already showing secondary characteristics. It reflects the style of Carlo Ferrini. Still tannic, rich, spicy and sweet
CENERENTOLA DOC ORCIA 2007 SCORE 93/100
<<This 17-year-old Foglia Tonda is amazing! >> Godel is struck by the freshness in a wine that already has secondary characteristics.
CENERENTOLA DOC ORCIA 2001 SCORE 89/100
Michael Godel recommends drinking it and thinks it is already past its best stage
