THE DAY OF THE BIBENDA AND AIS AWARDS
ON 17 NOVEMBER AIS – GUIDA VITAE AWARDS IN FLORENCE AND BIBENDA IN ROME. HERE IS THE SPECTACULAR PALMARÈS OF DONATELLA CINELLI COLOMBINI’S WINES
Brunello Prime Donne 2019 wins the 5 Grappoli by Bibenda and the 4 Viti by the AIS Vitae guide. This is a wine that has obtained widespread approval from critics and consumers all over the world.
The Brunello Riserva 2018 obtains the 4 Viti plus the gem from the Sommeliers of the largest Italian organization with a stratospheric score. A recognition that echoes Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s predilection for this wine <<I offer it at the table as often as I can because it coincides with my idea of a great Brunello>>.
The party is completed by the AIS award also for the Doc Orcia Cenerentola 2019. The blend of Sangiovese and Foglia Tonda which is conquering a growing number of enthusiasts with its elegant and unique intensity. <<Obtaining good ratings with Brunello is easier while for a young denomination like Orcia DOC it is really difficult and Cenerentola 2019 earned 93 points from Robert Parker/Wine Advocate and 92 points from James Suckling>> explains Donatella Cinelli Colombini which sees in the 4 Viti from the Vitae Guide a deserved confirmation of an increasingly broad consensus.
THE TWO AIS AND BIBENDA AWARDS CEREMONIES
AIS and Bibenda award ceremonies were both national in nature, took place on the same day and involved, in the majority of cases, the same wineries.
The result was a sort of collective tour in which the same people were in more sporty clothes in the morning at the
Leopolda Station to be photographed with the diplomas of the AIS awards and a few hours later, in evening dress, to take part in the gala dinner on the occasion of the 27th Bibenda Guide awards ceremony in the hall of the Hotel Rome Cavalieri.
Two very beautiful but very different moments. The Italian Sommelier Association, with its 40,000 members, has chosen a post-industrial scenario in the center of wine Tuscany for the national award ceremony of its Vitae Guide. A style that corresponds to that of its president, the Umbrian Alessandro Camilli, a man of great humanity and pleasantness who prefers informal situations and locations with strong evocative content.
Different choice for Franco Ricci at the helm of the Italian Sommelier Foundation which has its stronghold in the luxurious and imposing Waldorf Astoria Cavalieri in Rome. A refined opulence with tapestries, golden frames and crystal chandeliers as a backdrop for the great Italian wines and an evening called the Feast of Embrace A name that reiterates the feeling that binds wine producers.
In the end, in fact, it’s nice to meet again. It’s nice to know that we share the same profession and have the same aspiration for qualitative excellence.
