THE FIRST SCORES ARRIVE FROM VINOUS FOR THE NEW VINTAGES

ERIC GUIDO INVITES US TO BUCKLE OUR SEATBELTS, JUST LIKE WHEN A PLANE TAKES OFF, BECAUSE BRUNELLO 2019 TAKES WINE LOVERS STRAIGHT INTO THE SKY

Il nuovo Brunello di Montalcino 2019 di Donatella Cinelli Colombini

New Brunello di Montalcino 2019 by Donatella Cinelli Colombini

<< The current releases from Montalcino are a treasure for collectors and enthusiasts of this denomination>> writes Eric Guido at the beginning of his article on the 2019 Brunellos. << This is a year in which the entire area has excelled, from the south -west to east and from north-east to west>> explains the young but talented American critic, showing a Brunello shelf full of <<world-class wines of the highest quality and, in most cases, at reasonable prices>>.

But the positive considerations do not stop here, Eric Guido also underlines the sequence of three excellent harvests 2019, 2020 and 2021, starting to trace the specificities of each << ….2019 offers a fusion of power and elegance in a rare way while maintaining a delicious balance between acidity and structure… The terms classic, bold, cool-toned, crisp and elegant fill my tasting notes…. 2020, an elegant year with great concentration and high alcohol….. finally, 2021 presents a marriage between the previous two, with rich, intense fruit, elegance and balanced tannic structures >>.

These three aces promise to drive wine enthusiasts, and especially Brunello lovers, crazy.

95+ AND 92 FOR OUR TWO BRUNELLO 2019, AN EXCELLENT 94 FOR THE RISERVA 2018 AND AN EXCEPTIONAL 90 FOR THE ROSSO DI MONTALCINO 2021

The profiles that Eric Guido wrote for “Vinous“, an online magazine directed by Antonio Galloni,  mirror  his enthusiasm for Brunello and for Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s style where the beauty of Sangiovese comes out with purity, elegance and harmony. The four wines tasted by Eric Guido were created at Casato Prime Donne, a 40-hectare property on the northern side of Montalcino.

95+ BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2019 PRIME DONNE

“..a seductress enticing with exotic spice, rubbed sage, cedar, dusty rose and dried strawberry aromas. Cool-toned and classic in feel, it washes across the palate with seamlessly silky textures that balance tart wild berries with vibrant acidity. Tactile minerals add grip toward the close. This finishes dramatically long and staining, leaving violet inner florals to mingle with orange as a web of fine tannins frames the experience perfectly. The 2019 is the most balanced and complex rendition of Prime Donne I’ve yet encountered.”

92 BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2019

“…smoulders up from the glass with a dark array of dusty violets, sage and dried black cherries. This flows across the palate with silky, verging-on-creamy textures, all balanced by tantalizing acidity as tart wild berry fruits slowly saturate. The 2019 leaves a coating of fine-grained tannins that tug at the cheeks, finishing long and staining with an orange hint that adds lovely contrast.”

94 BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA 2018

entices with an exotic burst of sour cherry and confectionary spice complicated by zests of tangerine and violet florals. This sweeps across the palate, lifted and refined, with a pretty inner sweetness and zesty acidity to balance as tart wild berry fruits cascade throughout. It finishes potent and long, leaving grippy tannins and an unexpected freshness.

90 ROSSO DI MONTALCINO 2021

“The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino lifts from the glass with an earthy blend of savoury herbs, crushed rocks and wild strawberries. This is soft-textured with a measured inner sweetness and juicy red and blue fruits that swirl throughout. It finishes remarkably fresh and mouthwatering and leaves a crunchy pomegranate sensation to linger.”
