Over the years the Casato Prime Donne Award, funded by the Montalcino winery of the same name, and the first in Italy to have an entirely female staff, has contributed to the affirmation of the new role and new contribution of women to society and the world of work. In the past it has been awarded to personalities of science such as the virologist Ilaria Capua or the astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, sportswomen like the soccer player Sara Gama, exponents of culture and champions of human rights.

The jury, chaired by Donatella Cinelli Colombini and composed of Rosy Bindi, Anselma Dell’Olio, Anna Pesenti, Stefania Rossini, Anna Scafuri and Daniela Viglione has always managed to anticipate the change by emphasizing female characters who represent it.

From this 22nd edition, the award has now the new “mission” of incubator of local talents. The goal is to stimulate young Tuscan people, strengthening their motivations, giving training and visibility opportunities so that their success becomes a positive example for their peers. The 2022 edition will involve Edoardo Biagi, a student at the Master for Business Communication at the University of Siena, 4 classes of the Bettino Ricasoli Agricultural Institute and the Lambruschini Linguistic High School of Montalcino, the young Florentine goldsmith Riccardo Penco and the young pastry chef from Livorno Lorenzo Cristiani.

Prize on the theme “Montalcino and I” personal interpretation, also in a fantastic and fabulous key of Montalcino in its historical, cultural, landscape and agricultural aspects, awarded to Chiara Beghelli for the podcast on “Il Sole 24 Ore” on 23.01.2022 in which she talks about Brunello di Montalcino following the Wine Intelligence investigation.

“Consorzio del Brunello Award” on the theme “Brunello and the other wines of Montalcino” for Italian or foreign journalists specialized in the wine sector is won by Aldo Fiordelli for numerous articles including Il Divin Brunello now also has its temple, published in the newspaper “Corriere Fiorentino” on 10-07-2021

The female character, chosen by the jury for the “Prima Donna” Award for those women who particularly distinguished themselves for courage and ethical behaviour, in 2022, goes to the journalist Elena Testi sent to the Ukrainian front by Tagadà La7. Born in Arezzo 35 years ago, she graduated in Law, she stands out in 2012 with a survey on the “Monster of Foligno” in which she questions the procedural conclusions. She works as a freelancer for local newspapers, for “Panorama” and then for “l’Espresso”. From 2019 at La7 she covered the Covid front, then migrants and then Ukraine. Elena Testi is an example of a young person who builds their professionalism through precarious work and accepts to take risks by going to the forefront and supporting their own opinions even when they are uncomfortable but without ever failing in the humanity and objectivity of the story.
