Donatella Cinelli Colombini receives the Premio Internazionale Vinitaly 2012
She, the paladin of wine tourism in Italy, is the winner of the Premio Internazionale Vinitaly for her commitment and contribution towards the promotion of wine.
This prize was created in 1996, and is awarded every year to an Italian or foreign personality or institution who have particularly distinguished themselves in the wine world. The awarding will take place during the Gala dinner at Vinitaly in the beautiful Palazzo della Ragione directly from the President Ettore Riello and the General Director of Veronafiere Giovanni Mantovani.
An award which signifies recognition for women in wine, this 2012 prize, which in its motivation emphasizes the contribution given by Donatella Cinelli Colombini in favour of women and wine tourism, sectors where she has held important roles.
In past editions the winners have been prestigious personalities from the worldwide wine scene, from Corinne Mentzelopoulos administrator of Chateaux
Margaux to Robert Mondavi and Pablo Alvarez owner of Vega-Sicilia, or important journalists such as Marvin Shanken director of “Wine Spectator” and institutes such as the Master of Wine Institute. <<This is theGothaof International wine and it consequently a great privilege and honour for me to receive the premio Vinitaly >> said Donatella Cinelli Colombini.
She is descendant of a historic family of producers of Brunello di Montalcinoand in 1998 she created her own estate made up of Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino and Fattoria del Colle in southern Chianti. These are the first two wineries in Italy to be completely staffed by women, a flagship for women in wine here perfectly realised. These are bound together with an award destined to promote the Brunello territory and most of all women as new protagonists in the society and in the working world.
Eclectic personality, Donatella for years has studied history of medieval art, subject in which she took her degree. She has also had an experience in politics as Councillor for tourism for the city of Siena, her birthplace. Among her ideas, the Urban trekking, a sporting type of tourism, this from Siena has been spread through 30 other cities around Italy.
Donatella Cinelli Colombini contribution to emphasizing Italian wine regards mainly Wine tourism of which she has been a real pioneer. She, in 1993 she created the day called “Cantine aperte” Wine day, and founded the Movimento del turismo del vino. Thanks to an involvement and communication action created by Donatella, wine tourism rapidly reached success and changed the economy and profile of the Italian wine regions. She has also published two books: Manuale del turismo del vino del 2003 and Marketing del turismo del vino del 2007, which are
connected to her didactic activity in post graduate courses.
In giving the Premio Internazionale Vinitaly to Donatella Cinelli Colombini, the Veronafiere has intended emphasizing the importance of original and innovative contributions to the growth of the Italian wine sector.
