The Green land of Siena and tourism become environmentalists

Carbon-free Siena is a sustainable development project – awarded to Seul by the UN – which aims to maintain a balance of the human CO2 emissions with the carbon dioxide absorbed by plants. Its title the ‘Green lands of Siena’ suggests the involvement of tourism and agriculture in this great project. It will be difficult but not impossible. To reach this goal the 3 county commissioners involved (Berni, Scarpelli and Betti) have organized a number of meetings to involve citizens and businesses in an effort to become the first Italian province with zero emissions. They only need to reduce the last 10% and then the goal is achievable. I attended a conference at Palazzo Chigi in San Quirico d’Orcia

battlements ( a burnt Siena brown colour) with, inside Verbena flowers. This is a simple plant but it is very dear to our people, it is mentioned in a famous folk song “Verbena is growing in the Piazza del Campo, long live our lovely Siena, the most beautiful of all the cities “. The logo will be used on a website, in brochures, pamphlets, maps, advertising and on posters which will be displayed in stations and airports as well as on specific merchandising.
The Green earth of Siena continues the work which was started in recent years by ‘APT ‘, in which the Fattoria del Colle has been an active participant. It is a project with two objectives: on the one hand it works to engage companies in an annual reduction of their environmental impact, and on the other it shows the geographical area of Siena as being a

healthy and beautiful place to visit on holiday. A place where visitors can consume excellent food and wine with confidence because it is environmentally very clean. A location that beats the competition because it offers exceptional density of stunning works of art, food and wine of the highest quality together with a commitment to environmental sustainability.
