Synthetic uterus and career, will these be the future mothers?

Synthetic uterus and career, will these be the future mothers?

The Italian TV programme ” Voyager” on March 5th presented scientific research regarding laboratory pregnancies. A look into the future which

Her starts a consideration in a nation such as Italy where we are extremely motherly. The question is: Is there a connection between the amount of pregnancy leave taken here , superior to any other nation in Europe and the proliferations of mothers with a degree who are housewives and who hold on to their sons transforming them into “bamboccioni” and who are witches when they become mother in laws?

Italy is the 20th nation in Europe for amount of births although the birth-rate has grown slightly between 2002 and 2008 going from 1,2 children to 1,4 but this is tank to the immigrants. Already at this point there are some evident

some critical points but this is just the beginning. While in France and in Holland the differences between the occupation of women without children, with 1 child, o 2 children are insignificant, in Italy the difference of occupation rates between women with no children and those with one child is of 4 points and reaches 10% if there are two children. In other words, in Italy one woman out of 4 leaves her job after a maternity. Of these half are actually forced out either because fired or put into the situation of having to give notice. We are talking about 800.000 mothers mostly in the south and mostly with poor qualifications.

There is something wrong. The scarcity of play schools and the overprotective attitude of our mothers are not enough to explain such a catastrophic situation.

I suspect that the laws regarding maternity are a real boomerang which apparently protect women but in truth transform them into full time mothers. In fact what jobs do women carry out in Italy? Teachers, public sector employment … jobs where the weaker sex gets the job because they are better prepared than the men, and then they stay at home a year for each maternity without ending up doing more insignificant jobs as would happen in a private enterprise..

What can be done : to encourage men to take maternity leave as they do in Germany, where since 2007 they have increased by two thirds. Favour new enterprises who supply services to the person, <<third party handicraft >> which in France has created half a million jobs. And create an institution similar to the Istituto de la Mujer which modernises welfare in favour of women. Finally economically compensate the enterprises when there are maternities, in fact for as long as the companies have to support costs (annual leave and end of rapport compensation) and problems connected to the absences for maternity leaves they will obviously prefer employing men. In the end it is indispensable to think of women first as people then as mothers, only in this way will we have more serene and reassuring wives , mothers, and mothers-in- law. Only in this way will we push the Italian economy making the most of its “F potential” or rather the potential competences that women have but do not use.

Otherwise there are always the synthetic uteruses!

P.s The Italian association “Telefono rosa” reminds us that from the beginning of the year in Italy 31 women have been killed, that’s nearly one every 2 days..
