A super Riserva for Brunello
5 star harvest, vineyards in their prime, Valérie Lavigne’s personal touch and the new graphic style for Brunello Riserva 2006 from Casato Prime Donne
This is the most important type of Brunello di Montalcino, wine apt for
lasting centuries, and in this selection expresses at its best its potential. Donatella Cinelli Colombini has decided to aim high.
In 2006, a five star harvest, the grapes from the new vineyards with a low yield, we had an even lower production than usual, so as to allow Valérie Lavigne our consultant wine maker to select only the best. This style is very very elegant and very Tuscan.
A “gala” version Brunello, and to underline the change in style there has been also a slight restyling of the label. The new one has the same shape as the previous one but with a definite connection with the design of the Brunello Prime Donne, flagship and symbol of Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s productions. In other words the change is in line with the estate’s message.
Type: dry red.
Grape type: 100% Sangiovese (Brunello).
Grape harvest: from September 20th to October 10th. The harvest was manual, with a careful selection of the grapes; these reached the cellar in 20 kg. crates in less than hour from being picked.
Vinification: in temperature controlled vats for 16 days always with the must in
contact with the grape-skins. The must was very rich in extractable poliphenols, so rich in colour and fruit. The grapes where cooled with dry ice so as to impede the tendency of a rapid and hot fermentation.
Barrel ageing: 3 years in oak casks from small to large: 5 hl small barrels for the first year of ageing, then 15 hl oak barrels, and after 30-40 hl large oak barrels for the third year.
Quantity produced: 3000 bottles.
Colour: bright and intense ruby red.
Aroma: refined, clean, complex, with balsamic and spicy hints as well as net hints of red fruits.
Taste: very elegant, silky, full, intense, persistent with a hint of bitter almond that lasts pleasantly in the mouth. . The tannic structure is balanced by the alcohol content and the fruit.
Analysis: alcohol 14 % vol; Tot. ac. 5,2 g/l; vol. ac 0,56 mg/l; extract 29.6 g/l.; SO² tot 106 mg/l;
Matching dishes: important meat dishes (roasted red meats, game) and aged cheeses.
Way of serving: Room temperature (20°C). Use balloon shaped crystal wine goblets. Open at least one hour before serving.
Home ageing: 30 years and more. Keep the bottles lying down in a dark and cool place. Have the corks changed in Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s winery around the year 2032.
