Fashion show wines: wineries belonging to stylists
Seen for you by Donatella Cinelli Colombini
These are designer bottles; they have a pinch of glamour, these bottles created by the great names in fashion that have now turned to wine production. Even when the wineries belong to international stars such as Arnaldo Caprai from Montefalco they bring with them a more creative, international and brilliant imprint. Marco Caprai, the most famous name from Sagrantino, comes from a family of cashmere producers, the same who produce the famous lace bracelets Cruciani.
There are however those who have done thongs the other way round: Marco
Moretti Polegato is a winemaker who became stylist. Villa Sandi, belonging to his family, is a splendid Palladian style building in the middle of an estate with vineyards and cellars. To sell his wines Mario went to Reno in Nevada, the city worldwide famous for quick divorces. He decided to go for a walk. But it was very hot and his shoes with their rubber soles became a torture for his feet. He took a knife and made holes in them, his feet began to breathe and this was only the beginning of a large success. This intuition was then studied in a small family run shoe factory and that was the beginning of Geox.
The list of wine making stylists is very long: Roberto Cavalli has the Tenuta degli Dei in Panzano in Chianti Classico, the Cavalli Collection has spectacular bottles where a snake coils itself around the bottleneck enhanced by the monogram and brass cork cover. The bottle case is leopard print.
Renzo Rosso in his Diesel Farm, in Marostica near Vicenza, has created a type of bucolic oasis. The wines “Bianco di Rosso” “Rosso di Rosso”, Nero di Rosso” all show the imaginative fun which has brought him to succeed in fashion. Ottavio Missoni ex athletics world champion and knitwear king was also an impassioned wine producer. Then Antonio Moretti, the Arfango patron, and more recently Anna Fendi with a collection of 21 wine and spirits “all dressed up” among which the Brunello Negligé. And finally the Ferragamo family with their splendid estates Il Borro and Castiglion del Bosco where classical and elegant wines are made just like Salvatore’s famous shoes.
