There are millions of stars…. 5 those for country inns
Fattoria del Colle has “tre spighe” “three ears of wheat” . It might seem as though it’s a three star hotel but it in fact means that it belongs to the highest category of country inns in Tuscany.

In this region in fact the tourisms structures in the countryside are rated one,
two and three wheat ears.
Having a different criteria of evaluation in each region is very confusing for tourists who must choose between 21.500 structures spread all over Italy, but also damages those who run these activities.
Luckily the new minister Mario Catania has decided to listen to the Osservatorio Nazionale dell’Agriturismo approving a national criteria for classification and putting the Osservatorio in the directors cabin for re-launching the entire sector. The country inns will also be able to reach 5 stars like hotels this way ending the useless confusion that was sometimes damaging.
Finally after three ministers from the political world and working only for a certain period, at last a competent minister, and hopefully a lasting one. The idea is to create a cataloguing system based on the comfort and the services but also on the particular agricultural specifities of the inn including the integrity of the environment and the tipicity of food.
The Osservatorio is made up of a representative from Mipaaf (horrendous abbreviation for a complicate ministry such as “delle Politiche agricole, ambientali e forestali”) , the Dipartimento del Turismo, the Region, the three associations for country inns and the Touring Club. The data bank belonging to the ministry, where recordings refer also to rearing of animals and agricultural productions for every estate, and that now is used only for checking, will be the operation launch pad for a new promotional action for the whole sector.
Music to my ears. Finally!
This is quite the right starting point.
A few years ago during Agri&Tour in Arezzo the president of Agriturist Vittoria Brancaccio and the Director Giorgio lo Surdo told me, inconsolably, that the minister at that time had hidden in draw all the work carried out by the Osservatorio. Now, we begin again. Well done , bravo Ministro Catania!
