Two wine tours to discover Brunello: Itinerant tastings among the barrels dedicated to wine and music or wine and history

Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino is a treasure chest full of passion for wine and the territory and it proposes, for wine lovers who come to visit, two wine tours than can charm even the most expert Brunello estimators. The itinerant wine and music tasting with 4 wines to taste in different locations through the winery for which the sommelier musician Igor Vazzaz has chosen matching pieces of music. So, in the near darkness of the large barrel cellar, the Brunello is tasted together with the Sonata for solo cello opus 8, Adagio con gran espressione (1915) by Zoltàn Kodàly.

The novelty, launched on September 18th 2016, is the wine and history tasting apt for the lovers of wine and the Montalcino territory. In this case too the tasting is itinerant along a tour through the winery and regards 4 wines:  IGT Rosato Rosa di Tetto, Chianti Superiore DOCG, Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino.

During the wine tour, which lasts 50 minutes, the guide explains in Italian or English how Brunello is produced and the history of its territory. Some paintings positioned among the barrels help the story-telling but the surprise is in the fermentation area that has just been renovated with truncated cone shaped bare cement vats. This industrial space takes on a scenic dimension with the projecting of  “The dove’s flight”, three videos with the images of Montalcino, real ones and those painted by Roberto Turchi, formed by memories and suggestions emphasized by sounds, of the clarions, and popular folk songs. A Montalcino experience that no one had ever proposed before and that can convey the feelings of the Brunello population, impassioned, and bound to its traditions and projected towards the future.

WineTours take place from Monday to Friday from 9 to 1 and from 3 to 6. During the weekend bookings are necessary. The wine and music tour costs €24 per person and the History and wine tour costs  €18 per person, both last 50 minutes.

Those who think that wineries are all roughly the same at Casato Prime Donne will have to change their mind because here the experience are different m authentic and exciting regarding wine and the territory. In fact my winery in Montalcino was born to welcome, with the same attention, both wine and visitors. Here one hears my story regarding my ancestors land, where I have lived, a noble story of which I am proud and that I want people to know, even in its more folkloristic expressions. In 1993 I created the day called Cantine aperte- Wine day and still today I feel I am a flagship for Italian wine tourism. So my love for Brunello and for its territory merges with pride for having opened up a new way for the entire Italian wine. At Casato Prime Donne all of this is visible and is put into effect with two wine tours that will transmit my passions. I shall be expecting you!




Casato Prime Donne is on the slope of the Montalcino hill, the cooler side, looking towards Siena. It is surrounded by 16 hectares of Sangiovese Vineyard and the Val d’Orcia hills are covered with woods. In the stone building, built by my ancestors before the end of the 16th century, there are 5-7 hl tonneaux and 15-40hl barrels, there are no barriques.  Brunello sleeps for at least two years in oak casks. Then it goes back to the fermentation area where it rests for a last period in truncated cone shaped cement vats before being bottled.  At midnight on New Year’s Eve, after four years and four months since the grape harvest, it begins its journey towards the best restaurants and wine stores all over the world.
