OFFER: RISERVA SUPER VERTICAL FOR THANKSGIVING

Receive 2 bottles of Brunello Riserva of each of the 2018, 2016 and 2015 vintages at your home for €399.00

A unique opportunity for true wine lovers who want to receive 3 premium wines to open for important occasions such as festivities to serve with delicious dishes, or to organize a nice tasting with 3 vintages to be compared.

The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva by Donatella Cinelli Colombini is a great, extremely balanced and fine wine, which comes from a small vineyard of the Casato Prime Donne di Montalcino, the first winery in Italy with an all-female staff.

WHAT MAKES THE RISERVA SPECIAL

All Brunellos are able to last many years in the bottle, but Brunello Riserva is one of the greatest red wines in the world created for very long cellaring.

Donatella Cinelli Colombini produces Brunello Riserva in the Casato Prime Donne winery in Montalcino, Tuscany,

only in the best years and choosing by hand, one by one, the best bunches of Sangiovese grapes. A slow and careful way of working that allows only perfect grapes of the same level of ripeness to be sent to the cellar.

Before the harvest, the vineyards are divided into small parcels based on the tasting of the grapes. The area with the greatest qualitative potential is destined for the production of Brunello Riserva. The selection is made by tasting the grapes, just as was done a century ago, the laboratory analysis confirms the decision. Generally, the best grapes come from the Ardita vineyard, planted and cultivated at the highest point of the vineyards around the property.

NOVEMBER WEEKEND WITH WHITE TRUFFLE AND GREAT TUSCAN WINES

NOVEMBER 2024 WEEKEND IN TUSCANY FOR WHITE TRUFFLE HUNTING IN THE WOODS, TO TASTE IT AND LEARN HOW TO COOK IT, VISIT THE CELLARS AND TASTE BRUNELLO

White truffle from the Crete Senesi

Have you wondered what makes the white truffle of Alba and that of the Crete Senesi so valuable? Both are born in the territories where great red wines are made: Barolo and Brunello. Both contain very little garlic aroma. In the sixteenth century the white truffle was called “garlic of the rich” due to its acute component which, however, in the most prized types, is very delicate. A character perceivable both on the nose and in the mouth, where the taste is more harmonious, almost “honey-like”.

Obviously, the quality of the white truffle is at its peak immediately after its extraction from the ground and rapidly decreases as the days pass. This is why true truffle lovers come to eat it in the place of production and want it freshly “dug out”. In 2024 the summer was very hot and low in rainfall, this reduced the production of white truffles which will therefore be rare and (I fear) expensive. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy this exclusive and delicious fruit of the earth, come and experience a truffle weekend in Tuscany, at Fattoria del Colle.

due to the seven months of drought which put the vines and the winemakers to the test, as they were forced to continuously hoe the earth. 2022 will be remembered as the year of drought and tannins and it was also a very hot year where budding occurred early, also leading to an early harvest compared to the normal calendar. The small caliber of the grapes and their thick skins have allowed the creation of very structured and long-lived wines. The very favorable relationship between the skin and the juice of the grape has produced an exceptional concentration of noble substances and above all of tannins in the wine. For this reason, the vinification was very delicate and the maceration in contact with the skins was prolonged.

The result is a powerful and sunny Rosso di Montalcino, like the heat of summer 2022, but also with a surprisingly fresh sip thanks to the perfect acid content of the grape.

It aims high and plays on elegance and tastiness. <<It was created to accompany dishes based on white truffles from the Crete Senesi>> explains Donatella Cinelli Colombini, with the pride of someone who knows she has created a small masterpiece <<then we understood that it transforms every meal into a memorable moment because it unites the typical freshness of Italian sparkling wines to the gustatory intensity of the bubbles that have aged at length on the yeasts>>.

WINE TOURISM DOES NOT REGARD ONLY WINE

LANDSCAPES, SPORTS, MONUMENTS AND CITIES OF ART, TYPICAL GASTRONOMY AND OF COURSE WINERIES WITH THE HOPE OF PARTICIPATING IN EXPERIENCES DIFFERENT FROM ALL THOSE HAD BEFORE

Animazione turistica Fattoria del Colle sala che insegna ad ascoltare le vigne

Wine Tourism- Listening to the vineyards- Fattoria del Colle

We have always known that wine is not enough to generate wine tourism flows. We need a suggestive landscape, typical gastronomy and the presence of people with whom we can establish a relationship. More recently, with the exponential increase in tourist wineries (25,000), the most critical element is the proposal of experiences that are too similar to each other. In 96% of wineries, visitors visit the vat room and barrel room with an explanation of the production process followed by a tasting. It is only the size and importance of the latter that varies. This is why Roberta Garibaldi tells us that 66% of visitors think that the experiences in the cellar are all similar and there is a real risk that they will get bored.

But offering different experiences capable of teaching while having fun is possible, Donatella Cinelli Colombini shows us how.

TAILORED EXPERIENCES FOR EVERY TYPE OF WINE TOURIST

Identity, authenticity and diversity are the three key words. Donatella Cinelli Colombini invites you to her wineries at Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino and Fattoria del Colle in the Orcia DOC region to participate in unique and memorable experiences designed for different visitor targets.

As you know, I produce wine but I did not study oenology but rather the history of medieval art. I consider it a privilege to have dedicated years to the study of paintings, sculptures and minor arts but I also feel the privilege of living in Tuscany, a region that resembles an immense widespread museum, full of great works of art.

FEDERICO ZERI IN SAN QUIRICO D’ORCIA

Here I’ll tell you about one of them: the inlays by Antonio Barili in San Quirico d’Orcia, 30 km from Fattoria del Colle. During the last Orcia Wine Festival I met Marco Torchi who told me about Federico Zeri, one of the greatest Italian art historians and critics, who decided his destiny while he was in San Quirico d’Orcia.

OFFER: COMPARE THE TWO VERSIONS OF BRUNELLO 2019

Receive this proposal at home that includes 3 bottles of Brunello 2019 and 3 bottles of Brunello Prime Donne 2019 for €279.00

NEWS ON THE 2019 VINTAGE

This harvest has two surprising characteristics: on the day of harvest the vines were still in vegetation, an unusual circumstance that also occurred in 2010. As in that magical year, the grapes fro Brunello 2019  were excellent and abundant. An increasingly frequent characteristic with the new climate in which the vines find balance with a higher number of bunches than in the past, but we maintain a production per hectare of 60 quintals.

The 2019 Organic Brunello di Montalcino from Casato Prime Donne celebrates the effects of the new climate which has especially rewarded the cooler areas of Brunello. The northern area of the Montalcino hill, where Casato Prime Donne is located, has always been considered the humid and less sunny side. A circumstance that was once a misfortune and is now however a fortune because, together with the richness of clay that makes the soil cold, it allows a gradual maturation of the grapes even in the current hot summers.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BRUNELLO AND BRUNELLO PRIME DONNE

Brunello and Brunello Prime Donne are born in the first Italian winery with an entirely female workforce. Brunello Prime Donne, however, is the first long-aging red created for female consumers. Every year 4 super experts taste all of Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s Brunello and choose the barrels or tonneaux in which to mature it as well as the final blend. They are the Masters of Wine, Rosemary George and Madeleine Stenwreth, the wine shop owner Astrid Schwarz and the Sommelier Daniela Scrobogna. Therefore, based on their decisions, Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s winemakers create Brunello Prime Donne which is generally the most structured and is produced only in the best harvests.

THE RATINGS OF THE TWO VERSIONS SPEAK CLEAR

RED WINE SERVED COOL: WHERE WHEN & WHY

CLIMATE CHANGE, HEALTHIER MEALS AND THE DESIRE FOR NOOVELTIES ARE INCREASING THE CONSUMPTION OF RED WINE SERVED COOL AND SEEING IT IN THE FRIDGE IS NO LONGER SURPRISING

By Donatella Cinelli Colombini #winedestination

Vino rosso fresco e fragole

Red Wine served cool with strawberries

Winters so warm that you can have lunch outside, very hot and then very cold spring days… a truly crazy climate that also brings changes to menus and wines. The consumption of white wine increases and the serving temperature of red wine decreases.

If once it was said to bring bottles of red to the table at “room temperature”, now the specification of 16-18°C is written everywhere. Refrigerated cabinets for red wines are in every good restaurant and there are many more red wines to drink cool.

WHICH RED WINES ARE THE MOST SUITABLE TO BE CONSUMED COOL?

It is an effect of the new climate and the new attention to well-being deriving from food: more vegetables, less meat, more lightness, less cooking. Uncorking a cool red wine becomes trendy but which wines are suitable for reaching the table at 8-12° centigrade?
