The Danes, happy people

The Gallup index for nations with most faith in the future puts Denmark top of the list, then Sweden, Canada and Australia. Are you surprised? Let’s take a closer look at this happy population: no regular full time jobs yet there is very little unemployment. Denmark protects the worker not his employment, this way it ha san agile and performing productive structure.

Here in Italy is quite the opposite. But in the end might the defence of the famous Articolo 18 not go against the Italian workers? An article in the “Corriere della Sera” shows us the Danish Flexicurity , a forming system which lasts a whole life and help better ones professional skills year after year. It’s up to the worker then to play a good game with his abilities, and the facts prove that this does indeed happen. Because Denmark has resisted this crises a lot better than the rest of Europe.

Cenerentola a villa for the Charming Prince

Villa Cenerentola is on the highest point of Fattoria del Colle, prom here on all sides one enjoys a wonderful panorama. No factories, or cement, just fields of crops, medieval hamlets, woods, olive groves, and stone farmhouses ….everything has remained unchanged for centuries with an effect of

extraordinary harmony. In other words a panorama which has a regenerating effect and a silence which keeps the city stress at a distance.

Cenerentola like the DOC Orcia wine, the best from Fattoria del Colle.

Cenerentola just like the little sister left at home to do the house work, who then meets the fairy godmother and marries the prince. And this countryside really is a treasure to be discovered. Far away form the touristic circuits and still unchanged.

Bonella, an old time name for a modern woman

My name – Bonella – is tightly bound to the medieval history of Trequanda, where Fattoria del Colle is found, I work here welcoming guests in the country inn. Bonella or Bonizzella dei Cacciaconti della Scialenga was part of the feudal family o fan immense territory in southern Siena. My parents named me Bonella after one of my mothers Aunts, to whom she was particularly close

I have carried this name for years practically unknowingly; on the contrary, I bore the name basically suffering it. It was unusual being the suffix of the proper name “ella” easily added at the end of any word, school was a nightmare.

Leg polling songs, rhymes of any sort, and a list of 72 nicknames laid down by my class mates when in college, among which were even some Italian literary quotations (Bonella Pirandella) or Italian football ones too (Bonella Montella).

Revolution in the Strade del vino: enhancing wine tourism and the territory

Changing them radically is the only way to bring success to Wine tourism that today in great difficulty. It certainly is a shock action, something that will not better what is already existent but something that radically changes from the base. A few days ago the Assessore all’agricoltura della Toscana Gianni Salvadori ( councillor for agriculture for

Tuscany) asked me <<Is there really the need for so many Strade del Vino ? Are they useful? >> As they are today, no.
by Donatella Cinelli Colombini

However there is a possibility of making them successful. One can change the Strade in local competitive systems able to create development and job opportunities but we must have the courage to change them.

Here below I will list the first phase of this change the most upsetting but able to give the Strade an aspect as a destinations, or rather of unique places, places worth the journey. The first phase is to dive them among a “Strade del vino organizzate” and “Strade del vino libere” just like at the seaside.

The comparison is not disrespectful regarding noble wine territories. It is useful to point out to tourists where they will find services and were they must manage alone.

The adventure began long ago in November 2010, from then many new friendships have been made, many stamps on my passport, many wineries visited, many wines tasted….

After a long time we have returned to the OIV headquarters in Rue d’Aguesseau in Paris in exactly the same room where, 15 month previously we had began our Master course. We are here for two weeks lessons and exams.

Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s Brunello is in Paris

I met Oliver Nicolazo and his girlfriend Julia here at Fattoria del Colle where the young couple were spending a romantic holiday. Oliver is a wine lover and knows many wineries around the world, he is curious, always smiling and constantly looking for excellent new wines to taste which are to fascinate and charm him.
He lives in Paris where he is the owner and manager of “Cave Nicolas”. And when I arrived in the French capital to conclude my Master OIV I make the most of the opportunity and go and visit him.
His shop is well visible from the outside and is well organized, with many shelves, and on shelf in the centre our Brunello stands out.

Brunello is one of the 150 things that the world envies us of…

Together with Armani, Juventus, Capri, the Coliseum and Roberto Benigni, Brunello di Montalcino is among the Italian things that those abroad are envious of.

by Donatella Cinelli Colombini

This piece of news comes from a survey carried out by the students of the Istituto Costa in Lecce.
The young inhabitants of the Salento peninsula sent 3.500 e-mails to people living abroad, chosen in a random way, in different nations around the world, asking them to list 20 Italian things – artists, food, works of art, places, etc. that they know and appreciate so much so as to desire having them in their own nation.

Il Drago e le 8 colombe

Today is the beginning of the Chinese New Year and this is the year of the dragon. A magic year for this wine which changes completely.

New vintage, new blend of grapes, new name and new packaging for the Drago wine by Donatella Cinelli Colombini.

“Il Drago e le 8 colombe” in the flesh

“Il Drago e le 8 colombe” in the flesh

The doves represent the women and consequently refer to the female cellar staff, a revolutionary work situation for Italy. With the arrival of the female consultant wine maker Valérie Lavigne the doves increase in number and the name of the wine changes: it used to be called “Il Drago e le Sette Colombe” and has become “Il Drago e le 8 Colombe”

Quite on the contrary the Drago emphasizes a male presence – nobody here wants to be discriminating – in the person of Carlo Gardini, Donatella’s husband who is a great wine lover
The arrival of Valérie Lavigne, sets of a serious thought about Italian grape varieties and the possibility of blending them to make high quality wines that are able to sell on foreign markets.
From here the desire to emphasize the Sagrantino grape, a variety greatly used in Umbria, which is just 20km away from Fattoria del Colle and belongs to the same geographical area. For the moment we are cultivating Sagrantino grapes in just a few rows, but soon it will be possible to harvest a whole new Vineyard.

The Cancello Nero vineyard is beautiful once again

Written By Donatella Cinelli Colombini for the vine and the cellar

Fattoria del Colle impianto Cancello Nero

Fattoria del Colle impianto Cancello Nero

The  “Cancello Nero” Vineyard, the best at Fattoria del Colle, is returning to its old glory. A few days ago the grape growers captained by Efisio Luche have planted the poles which will hold the steel wires were the vines will grow.

This is job seems easy but it is not so. In fact the aesthetics want the poles to be well aligned, from whichever angle one is looking at the vineyard. This is only way to give the vine covered hills a harmonious aspect, in that agrees with the surrounding countryside.
