Hunting for the cheapest of dream trips, internet connections during holidays have tripled .. these and other trends regarding tourism described by Trademark

“Trademark trend” is a newsletter whish is sent via internet by Aurelino Bonini the wizard for tourism statistics, the very same who supplies TV and major newspapers anticipations regarding next summer in hotels and evaluations regarding the information received from the regional administrations.

Is this information reliable? His reply is no. The triumphalism during the past few months regarding the arrivals in 2011 is out of place, in fact over the new year there has been a -30% which is really alarming. Also, the ISTAT and Eurostat information do not coincide. In the number of nights stay in hotels there is a strange difference of 100 million stays.

You will taste wines made here and at Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino, you will taste typical local dishes such as Pinci and the mixed grill with meat from the Valdichiana. The nearby small art cities will offer you pleasant surprises: Pienza ,renaissance city wanted by Pope Pio II, who for a bridge transforms the main square into an Italian style garden, and Montepulciano with its May 1st fair and the celebrations of the patron saint Sant’Agnese.

Inner Wheel is a great association that unites 100.000 women, it started in Manchester in 1934 and today is present in 103 nations all over the world but mostly in India. Its main goal is friendship and comprehension among people. I Siena the president is Cecilia Cateni Mittica, where there is a small lively and active group. I have been invited to a meeting to talk about women in wine and my experiences as a female entrepreneur. In the end I to was surprised by the attention received by the Inner wheel members and I accept happily their request to come and see my winery, with the vineyards, barrels m vats and of course to taste the Brunello with a guided tasting so as to increase their knowledge regarding the wine. Consequently I presume to have found some future wine lovers. My passion for great wines has rubbed off on them.

In the bar Il Barrino di Montisi there’s party, and what a party!

Montisi -Il Barrino – Navel of the world

Montisi -Il Barrino – Navel of the world

Montisi, this hamlet has only 400 inhabitants, but seems to be the centre of Tuscany. Its heart is represented by the bar called Il Barrino where broker’s from London, billionaires and farmers all have a coffee together

Il Barrino’s success come s from the fact that it authentic, people make friends purely through the pleasure of spending time together. This is a place where you are never alone, where you dress as you like and you can always find some interesting gossip. There’s a mixture of languages, habits, and lifestyles that is the real key to its charm.

Let’s go back a step so as to understand better. Here we are 10 km from Fattoria del Colle south-east Tuscany, in an area where mass tourism does not exist.

He reminds you of a modern Geppetto but he is a master carpenter

Giorgio Romani: carpenter by profession, artist by vocation. His creations in wood can be found in Siena in the quality handicraft boutique called Toscana Lovers

seen for you by Donatella Cinelli Colombini

Siena- Toscana Lovers – creations in wood by Giorgio Romani

Siena- Toscana Lovers – creations in wood by Giorgio Romani

The olive wood tells the centenary story of the tree from which it has come from. Hot years, cold periods, lightning, pruning … s series of curved lines which resemble rhythmic music that the artists indulges, turns, hollows until he finds a perfect harmony. This is how Giorgio Romani’s creations are born; he is a young and modern Geppetto who arrives in the Tuscan hills straight from Abruzzo to work with wood. His are pure essential shake, attended to in every detail. Shapes that hide the skill and I might say the virtuosity behind apparent simplicity. For example the bowl is so thin so as to let through the light, while the rim of the soup tureen is chiselled by hand so as to be pleasant to touch.….

The new wine contests have a female jury

Women have more importance now as wine experts, producers, buyers and consumers, 4 wine contests underline this with all female juries

Daniela Scrobogna

Daniela Scrobogna

During the past 10 years the importance of women’s opinion regarding wine has constantly grown in importance at the same rate as the increase in numbers and competence of the consumers. At the end of the 20th century, among the tasters of the “Guida dei vini del Gambero rosso” there were only men, today Eleonora Guerini “Lady Wine” has a high level role like Daniela Scrobogna in “Duemilavini” by Bibenda AIS.

The most striking manifestation of the increase of importance of the weaker sex regards wine contests with entirely female juries, there are at least 4 of them:

Wine Women Want” – National Women’s Wine Competition that took place in Santa Rosa California in 2007 and 2008, next edition September 2012.

Pieve di San Sigismondo: An April the first without April fools and with no fish, everything went very smoothly according to plan. Many small initiatives by generous people, united and industrious. Everybody has given a hand: there are those who have coke, those who have taught immigrants, who has offered a home, those who have taught to cook, those who have organized balls, or excursions…. A programme which has united the members making them feel useful and happy to live experiences together Lots of work which has eremite us to collect funds for the Dynamo Camp and for a local service which will be put into act during the next few months, and will be a continuation of the Premio Losappio.

Kerin O’Keefe clever, beautiful, young and a Brunello lover

Kerin O’Keefe: she writes for The World of Fine Wines, Wine, Decanter, Wine News …. She is an excellent wine taster, and she knows Montalcino better than I.

Brunello di Montalcino di Kerin OKeefe

Brunello di Montalcino di Kerin OKeefe

Here new book is called “Brunello di Montalcino” ( 300 pp. 36,60€) and tells of the locations, the people and even the recipes in such detail and precision just like a person who knows Montalcino inside out, and like someone who ha san archive with thousands of pages of notes. I don’t know how long she has stayed in Montalcino but certainly a long time. She writes with a light tone, like that of story for friends but the information is precise and always exhaustive.

Angelo Gaja asks: Is there enough Italian wine?

Italy consumes and exports 45 million hectolitres of wine and produces a little more than 40.A great opportunity according to Gaja who proposes methods for making the most of the situation

WHAT WINE IS BLOWING IN EUROPE The Italian wine market is experiencing a phase of great changes and offers different views. National consumption decreases while export increases. There are producers who have difficulty in selling and have their cellars full; others who make the most of these markets can empty their cellars. Habitual pessimisms compared to rhetorical optimism. Where does the truth stand? The figures don’t say all but help to understand.
